Which one to pair with Explorer?

Explorer/Speedmaster or Explorer/Snowflake?

Tough choice

Speedy. No question.

I love the Moonwatch, but hated how short the winding crown is. Was a chore to wind.

I'll have to go for the Snowflake. Such workmanship.

I would opt for the snowflake here too, just for dial color variety. However to wind the speedy, I found putting the index finger flat under the crown and using the side of the thumb and pulling towards you with the finger and away with the thumb helps. I also found winding after you dry you hands. Seriously, it softens the fingers a bit. Wash hands, dry, then wind. It’s a big difference.

Snowflake. That magnificent dial and spring drive, not to mention GS’ legendary finishing of the case. No contest for me. The Speedy is an icon for sure, but the Snowflake is a better watch by a mile.

Hmm. Maybe the Snowflake by a smidge?

I can see reasons for one or the other though.

The Explorer and Speedy are a little too similar in my opinion. Snowflake would add a different dial experience.

BUT-- I strongly recommend you check an Aqua Terra in white/opaline silver configuration as well. Check out the 38mm option.

Nicer contrast with the snowflake. Speedy is too similar.

Thanks guys, I currently have the Speedy Pro and the Explorer, maybe I should just add the Snowflake and make it my little holy trinity collection. The date and PR complications (and white dial) added some fun in the collection I think

The Grand Seiko is the technically superior watch and if you do not get caught up in the Speedy hype a more unique watch. I have owned a lot of Speedy's over the years and they are easy to come by and easy to let go. Grand Seiko, it is at least worth a serious look.

I'm a happy Explorer and Speedy Hesalite owner. Not sure how these watches look similar, other than they both have black dials and stainless steel cases, definitely a place for both in a small collection. The GS is a great piece and I've always admired it from a distance, but I'm just not a fan of most of the GS case, bracelet, and hands designs aesthetically. Snowflake dial is amazing though.... And I agree, make sure you're okay with the manual winding, some find it difficult, I find it pretty easy for my piece at least.

That’s a tough one but the GS is in a league of its own
The spring drive is a must in any collection imho
