16710...holes or no holes?

Looking at getting a Pepsi 16710 either 2000-2001 with holes or a 2007 without holes. I like the nostalgia look with holes but the no holes looks more refined. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance

No one, including you, will think about the difference after 2 weeks.

This. I have a 1988/89 holes 16710. I forgot they’re there.

Good choice in a watch. Either one is great, although the non-holes version is less likely to show it's age over time.

I have some of each and choosing one because it has holes or not never crosses my mind.

Yeah, I think the key here is deciding what criteria you want to use to make the choice. I've had a Sub with holes and one without; to be honest, I prefer the holes--just makes the watch look... I don't know, more rugged, maybe? More tool-y and less jewelry-like? I feel kinda stupid putting this into words, but that's what I think. That's very subjective, though, and also the Pepsi isn't a Sub---in my opinion (and don't crucify me for saying it---it's just an opinion), it's a more jewelry-looking watch, less rugged. So maybe the holes detract from that.

But what's not as subjective is the quoted point: especially if you assume that the watch will see a polish or two in the future, the holes are more likely to reveal that: they may show some cratering and distortion. It doesn't always happen, but it does happen, and that bothers some collectors. The no-holes case will be more forgiving.

EDIT: I'd also add that while it's quick to change straps on a holes case, it's not (in my experience) going to decrease the likelihood of you scratching the watch, particularly the insides of the lugs. If that's a concern, your best bet is pick up a set of springbar tweezers ($90 at Esslinger or you can splurge for Bergeon) which, if used properly, cause no scratching whatsoever, and also negate that issue when it comes to choosing between a case with holes or one with no holes: with tweezers, you wouldn't use the holes anyway.

I like to wear my watches on multiple bands / configurations and as such prefer the simplicity of doing so with the perforated lugs (versus the modern pieces). If you plan to switch bands would suggest the older pieces

For me, holes is the way to go — ease of changes. P-serial or K-serials are best.

Go for lug holes with SEL's if you can find one. Just makes taking off the bracelet so much easier.

It didn't matter to me. Mine has no holes which is fine by me as I'll never switch to a strap. Condition rules..

Holes are sort of more vintage-ish for me. Like 'em.

No holes. If it’s polished, you won’t obsess over how the hole openings are no longer sharp. Plus it will be newer and less likely to have patina, which I don’t care for. And SEL. Mine is no holes, so I’m clearly biased.

And contrary to popular opinion, I also prefer hollow end links. But in the end, condition is everything when on the hunt.

Holes

Lug holes are a stronger connection for the bracelet and do not hurt the appearance of the watch at all. I wish that all the sport maodels had them. Actually I wish they had screw bars instead of spring bars, but that is not likely to happen.

Can I ask how lug holes are a stronger bracelet connection?

The spring bars pivots on a through hole case are twice the length and half again as thick.

They are stronger because the pins used have a larger diameter pin to engage the lug and the pin fits deeper into the lug hole. They also make it much easier to remove and install the bracelet. They also make it less likely to put scratches on the watch lugs. I really do not understand why some people do not like the look of them; to me they are not noticeable and make they no difference visually. I like the added security of them. They are not quite as good as screw bars or fixed bars but they are better than the non-drilled lug springbars.

Thankfully Seiko still has enough sense to use them on their sport watches.
