Daytona incoming
My wife surprised me with a black dial Daytona last night for our 27th anniversary. I started my quest for one a little over a year ago. It was going to be my first Rolex. I talked to the SA at my local AD at the time and she was the first to tell me that this is a difficult watch to get. She said they only got a few per year. She pulled up the catalog and asked if I would be interested in anything else. I liked the SS GMT’s and told her if she could not get the Daytona I really liked either of those. Two weeks later she called and offered me a BLRO, which I quickly accepted. In February I started to reach out to her to remind her of my interest in the Daytona. Apparently about two months ago my wife called her and asked her to let her know if one became available and not tell me, so that she could make it a gift. Needless to say, they took care of me. I absolutely have the best wife, and SA, there is.

Great story to get two of the most difficult steel pieces without purchase history. Like lightning striking twice in the same place.

That just may work for you! It’s interesting. I’m not sure the watch would have come our way if she had not taken this approach. The SA was apparently really into the plan to make it a surprise for me. The story goes that the manager/owner announced in a morning meeting that they had received this watch and it was available. Our SA jumped in and told him she wanted it for us and she got first right on it. She stepped out of the room and tried to call my wife but she let the call go because she thought it was my mother... the SA and my mom have the same first name. The SA followed with a text immediately. My wife saw it and immediately called. Supposedly if the SA had to walk back into the meeting without and order it was moving on to the next person... Agreed. I almost feel guilty asking for help on the next piece. I’ll probably wait a while. I did have some purchase history, but nothing ridiculous. Enough to have a relationship. A couple of gifts for my daughter and wife, a Seamaster (seven years ago) and a Cartier watch for my wife, but after we got the BRLO. They know I’m not a high rolling type, but they know I like what I buy and appreciate that they make the process easy and enjoyable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
