Would you buy Code 11.59 Time only dress watch?
Dear TRF,
I’m looking to save up for a gold dress watch and came across the AP Code 11.59 collection as part of doing my research. I know it’s not your typical PP Calatrava, ALS Saxonia, or VC Patrimony/Traditionnelle style of dress watch but what do you think of this AP Code 11.59 dress watch? Is it worth to buy this dress watch? Thanks for your opinion. Current collection: Rolex Submariner 116610LV, Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional |

Would you buy Code 11.59 Time only dress watch?

1. Having handled the blue face and also the chronograph - I came away very impressed with the quality of the dial, case, overall build quality and the wrist presence of the timepiece. 2. Yes. Your choice of boutique/AD or grey would depend on whether you see more AP pieces in your future or this will be the only one for the brand.

Well, to be honest the dial design is just lazy. To me it looks more like a fashion watch homage ( Fossil, Daniel Wellington, Armani etc).
The fonts don’t match, datum position is aweful and the watch is a tad too big diameter and thickness) for a dress watch. |

The short answer to your question is yes. I thought the generation 1 dials were meh on the TO / Chronos but really like the second generation fume dials.
I am picking up my two toned black fume one soon. I’ve wanted a two tone watch for awhile and really like that they didn’t skimp and used white gold on rose gold vs. other TT watches that are usually yellow or rose gold on stainless steel. The fume dials do an incredible job in playing with light and you get AP’s latest and greatest movement. They are pricey for what they are and there are tons of other watches you can consider (which is frankly the case with any model) but the watch really spoke to me and I like where AP is headed. Good luck! |

You asked what we think of it... Honestly... I hate it. Hate it all. Hate the whole thing.
Get something else. Doesn’t even have to be a watch. Anything but this. Done. |

I do not like the watch and the design is just so so. This is a not a watch I would purchase unless the discount was significant and even then I would have to really love the watch as you own it. You can do much better for the money and protect what you have in the watch better from a different brand.

I have seen and tried on but don’t have one. I really like. The case is fantastic IMO. I personally don’t have a desire for a “dress watch” so this one would fit dress and casual occasions. My hesitation is the amount of competition this has at its price point and me it does not feel like it fares above what could be had for around the ballpark.

Getting warmer for me. Love the new dial colors, but still hate the numerals.

It's getting more attention now.
I still don't like the numerals and seems like the date window at the wrong place. I like JULES AUDEMARS SELFWINDING better for dress watch.

If you want a dress watch - for the price point of this range - in My view there are better options (VC, PP, ALS, Breguet)
I tried these on in Singapore and did nothing for me but buy what you like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I recommend to try them on in person, not loving it but I feel there is lots of potential for a more casual dress watch. I do hope they change the dial up in the future.

Love AP but also not a fan of the time only Codes, the dial is just too big. I also do not think they were meant to be a dress watch.
However, the chronos and perpetual Codes do look a lot better as they fill up that big dial. |

I currently have the rose gold, sunburst blue dial. Tbh as an everyday watch in the office or at work dinners, it is the best timepiece from my current collection.
It’s definitely not a JLC or Patek since it feels much more modern yet elegant and unique. I don’t think it is a dress watch. I’m in my 30’s and I feel this fits me more than the 2 previously mentioned brands. It’s nice to sometimes have a watch that isn’t as fragile or prone to scratches as the royal oak (I currently have 4 different iterations of the royal oak). If you don’t currently own a RO, ROC or offshore then perhaps get those first but after you’ve done so, the Code 11.59 becomes more appealing since it is different from all the rest and for me is my everyday companion. |

Time only is ugly to me. So much else out there a similar price point. I’d pass.

Lotta hate out there for this watch, and I get that it isn’t to everyone’s taste. If you like it then that’s what matters. The gentleman with the scrubs and the Rg/blue model above has a beautiful example. Good luck!

My only advice is buy what you like. Asking the Internet what they think about the Code is a bad idea. Most people that malign this line have no idea what they are even talking about. I’m not passing judgment here per se as most people on this forum are knowledgeable and would typically have some rationale as to why they don’t like it.
My personal opinion is the Code is an interesting watch and I’m adding one soon. I honestly am super excited about it. It would never be something I’d get if my collection was under 5 watches...unless of course you really love it and you’re going to wear the hell out of it. I think this line is going to be popular in 2-3 years. Maybe I’m wrong but I think the overall offering is compelling. The above said, if you’re very price sensitive and value retention is a priority, wait another year or so or buy secondary.

This isn't for the sake of arguing; I'd like to know what other options of precious metal watches in the 20K segment that can be both a dress watch and an everyday watch. I have ROC and other chrono's so I appreciate the simplicity of the time only code which I believe allows that new lacquered dials to pop more. I think opening up the discussion is good. BTW to compare it to a POLICE watch may imply that its large in diameter. If you have a 7" plus wrist size then it isn't big. Currently the trend has been towards larger watches. So I agree that it isn't a traditional dress watch but also have to point out that I don't believe it was meant to be one either. |

New is obviously more, but within striking distance https://www.alange-soehne.com/en/tim...old-black-dial I have this one I got for 6k, dressed down on brown strap: https://www.tourneau.com/watches/pre...-VIW01867.html Could do this used maybe https://www.tourneau.com/watches/pat...AT0149429.html I’m not really in the market for a high end dress watch in PM at the moment, but the ALS speaks to me way more than the AP. More of a dress watch, but can be dressed down for everyday fine (and by everyday, I’m not saying it’ll go with work out gear). |

I definitely admire them and am looking forward to having one soon enough. Although I enjoy the contemporary nature of the code, I still FULLY understand springing for Lange before the code.
Cheers mates, I sincerely appreciate the links of the ALS and am making a mental note to get in person viewings of them. In the meantime, I honestly do love my code in a special way and that’s the only thing that should matter to us. Enjoy the journey and make friends along the way. |

I looked at several pateks, PM rolexes and JLCs. In the end I ordered the code 1159 blue dial, pink gold time only.
I wanted something a little dressier than my sport Rolexes and other SS pieces. I also wanted something that was more modern. When you try them on in person - they are so different and of amazing quality! Pictures don't do it justice. I pick mine up this week. |

I don't mind new designs and usually side on things that are a bit avant-garde, but this is too much. If I wanted a gold timepiece with a polarizing design, I'd probably go w Omega Constellation.

I don't really see the Code as a "dress watch" (although I also can't quite say what it is). I quite like the smoked dials, and the case and crystal are amazing in person. I would be a buyer it if I had the means to buy several and color-coordinate with my outfits, as in the AP promo pictures...

I’m not a dress watch person but the new code releases are growing on me and I think that’s because they aren’t an all out dress watch, to me they have a sporty edge. I bet future iterations will be even sportier.
If AP ever make a Code that replicates this one then they may have a new customer. This speaks to me, I don’t know why but it just does. I think the Code line is an acquired taste and with each new iteration it matures and wins people over. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
