Why is diamond marker DJ least preferred?

My 3 watch rolex collection has a DJ41 diamond marker (fluted bezel, oyster bracelet, SS), SD43 and BLNR (jubilee bracelet).

I wear them on a 2-3 week rotation and whenever it is the DJ on my wrist - I do feel it looks very nice. Would not want to replace it with a stick marker or roman numeral marker.

Just curious why there is so little love/preference for the diamond marker DJ. Possibly only 1 in 200 incoming DJ thread or which DJ would you prefer replies goes for the diamond marker.

Why is diamond marker DJ least preferred?

Well some people (not me) think diamonds only belong in women’s watches / jewerly; think that is why it is not preferred by most. Another reason think is the lack of lume in dials with diamond markers

It’s a good question that may get different answers from various corners of the globe.

The DJ leads the pack for Rolex buyers and finds itself in a business setting as much as a casual setting. The owners aren’t as likely to be wearing diamond jewelry either. So in many Western markets, the buyers don’t opt for a diamond dial.

I’m just not a fan of diamonds on men’s watches unless you’re going all out with some ridiculous bust down (if you’re an entertainer, athlete, celeb, etc.). IMO diamond hour markers or bezels are best left to ladies watches. No offense. Just my $.02.

I know heaps of guys that prefer diamond markers.

Diamonds look good on markers especially when seen in person. Most guys dont like diamond bezels though even the ones who like the diamond markers.

If you’re going to put diamonds on a watch at all, for me, they only belong on a women’s watch. Just personal preference.

The broader position for me, a diamond is cut and mounted to reflect and disperse light and you can’t do that when it’s set in to the dial of a watch.

It's a bit of a controversy, perhaps like a man purse or man earrings or a man pinky ring. It all just boils down to personal taste.

IMHO, anytime a watch can be bought at a lower price point it becomes the preferred one. Diamond dials significantly increase the price and make the watch less attractive. Everyone wants to buy in at the low point. Examples include SS over two tone or PM. Subs over SDs and YMs. Plain dials over Diamonds just follows the trend. The SS over TT or PM has spiraled out of control so much so that they are almost equal in price on the secondary market as if SS is some sort of magical material.

Depends on the reference and the dial, but they honestly look better on other people than me

I like some diamond dials but they don’t really suit my low key sense of style.

Yeah I agree here ... I like diamond markers (preferably baguettes much nicer)

As peter said though really don’t like diamond bezels, (again there are some baguette versions which I love on very expensive models).

My generally preferred Rolex dial is sticks with lume. I do really like the diamonds on the meteorite DD 40 dial. That would be my preferred dial on a DD40.

For many people, it's too much watch to wear. Also many may feel they can't wear that everyday at the office. I am sure there are lot's out there who inside, wouldn't mind to have a diamond dial.

Most Datejust 41 wearers are men. I'd venture to say most men do not prefer diamonds on their watch or they are cost prohibitive. Since most men prefer Roman or index dials on the Datejust, they are more popular among consumers and thus more desired.

Square bracket and circular cut diamond is a real turn off to me

Either make the diamond a square cut or the bracket circular to match

Diamonds on a watch...to me...are a bit too "Vegas" for my taste. Kind of like pinky rings and "Italian Horn" necklaces. Makes me think of Studio 54.

Wife had zero interest in stock Rolex as did offer, so we went custom bling and she loves it (so do i). She wears it 24/7 and beats the living sh_t out of it and it keeps working :)

I like mine. I understand some may think diamonds as ostentatious, and I tend to generally mostly agree. However, in this case imo the dark rhodium dial and diamond combo really sang to me as being classy and somewhat understated, and not an in-your-face f.u. watch.
