Is there place for explorer i & explorer ii in a collection?
Hi guys,
Was looking for your opinion in regards to owning both the explorer i and explorer ii in a collection? Does anyone have both? If so, do you feel they share do the same purpose (tool watch) and steal each other’s wrist time? I currently have the 114270 36mm version and am considering the 16570 polar or black. Just afraid both are similar tool watches.. need some convincing :) Pic for attention |

Completely different watches imo.
I have all 3 of the current explorers and I’m hoping Rolex does something dramatic for the 50th anniversary next year so i can continue to add to the collection.

I don't own either, but I fully believe that both can be in a collection. Very different look and style.

Of course, they are totally different watches.
I would choose 16570 polar and make a good duo with 114270 |

Those Explorers would be a killer two watch collection.

I think there's less overlap between the two explorers than e.g. between explorer I and date just or explorer 2 and GMT (and definitely less than between GMT LN, BLNR, BLRO and CHNR....). |

Of the two I only own the Exp, but they are completely different watches. Yes they are both tool watches, doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't have both.

I've got a 114270 and a 16570, as well as a DJ 36. I wear the ExpII and the DJ on alternate days, as they're both a touch more interesting to look at on the wrist than the Exp, which I've lately given up wearing at all. Perhaps it'll assert its charms on me one day soon, but I'm not sure. At the moment I like the DJ best of the three: the blue dial, the blingy numerals and the bracelet.
Of course your decision will be based, amongst other things, on how many watches you want. I thought I wanted three, but I think that two will do just fine. |

Wow i think we are twins. I also own the 114270 and the DJ36 in blue lol. Was consolidating and reducing collection by selling other watches to finish with 3. Wanted to get that 16570 (hence my post) or a white OP36. Thanks for feedback! Will definitely consider a 16570. May i know your wrist size? |

Sure. It's 7 inches, bang on. Here are pics of them all on my wrist. Because the ExpII dial is roughly the same size as the 36s, I find they all wear pretty much the same.
If the choice is between the 16570 and the OP I'd personally choose the former, as the OP is basically a 114270 without the numbers and with a crown at 12. But the Exp and ExpII, as someone above said, share only the name. |

They are both beautiful watches, but quite different enough to have in a collection. The only common factor is the name they share. Either dial in an Explorer ll would suit your 114270. |
