The freaks are awesome but more $$$. I have a 39 sea q and enjoy it. The watch head is not too heavy at all. In fact, I have it on bracelet now and its very manageable

GO by far. The UN's have some cool watches but resale is dismal.

Both manufactures make great and interesting watches. Design language is generally very different. I am not sure any meaningful advice can be given without knowing at least which references you are considering.

I would find a deal on a Freak at the top end of your range and go with that - seeing some of the newer line in the $14s...

GO. The finishing and attention to detail is definitely a substantial step up.

As others have said, very much depends on the piece. UN have made many amazing pieces and have lots of horological firsts - Astrolabium, Planetarium,Tellurium, Freak, Sonata, Perpetual GMT etc etc but equally GO make some great pieces.
An original Freak takes some beating, not too large at 42mm and the first watch to use a silicon escapement, not to forget it is also a carrousel and without crown.

Do you happen to know exact weight? My one concern with that model is that when I tried it on the rubber strap it felt like a tank for watch under 40mm. Haven't been able to find the head weight online.

I’ve been eying a water resistant option from both. Like the seaq and the marine collections. Senators from go are nice as well.

I purchase a GO Senator and love it!!!
100 hr power reserve, elegant, easy to read, a fine time piece, but def under the radar.
Good detail and finish
Purchased from DavidSW- from Chris - both Chris and David were gentleman and easy to work with.

It is interesting how people see different brands, I guess it depends on how you rank whats is important for a brand - minute repeaters, cathedral gong alarms, cloisonné, split second chrono's, automatons, first use of silicon, Guinness WR for most complicated wrist watch, Trilogy of Time etc etc.
Of course GO makes a great watch as well.

I joke, it really is impossible to compare without knowing the model the OP is comparing.

I’m a bit surprised by how lopsided the poll has become. Didn’t realize UN had so few fans. The more I look at the latest releases the more I realize why the skew in the results though.

I am a big fan of UN but I realise the newest of all the UN's I've owned (7 pieces) is 2005. That does tell me something about what has happened in recent years.

In what sense? Surely not history, technical prowess or groundbreaking designs. That being said, GO makes good watches.

It reflects some of the decisions made with the model line since the death of Rolf Schnyder in 2011and Ludwig Oechslin leaving a few years earlier - many people simply don't know about the amazing pieces that were being produced in the 80's, 90's and 00's - the fact that they produced the world's most complicated wrist watch in 1989 with the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei simply isn't known.

I'm looking at the Sea Q 39.5 and the senator excellence chrono white dial from GO as well as the Marine collection from UN. Specifically the marine torpilleur or the annual calendar with enamel dial.
