Sucker for the new vintage

Began this fascination with collecting 90’s era Rolex over a year ago and with the help of everyone here a acquired a collection of several. My drop in visits wearing older models to the local AD and asking about what is so great about newer models recently Got me a call in to pick from a new 126610 or 166613 as well as a CHNR. Ultimately I bought the 610 and have been wearing for 2 weeks.
I took it off today and put back on the 116520 to charge it up and then the 16700 gmt. What I realized is I have no love for the new! Am I crazy or does anyone else’s just love the feel and look of the classic Rolex.

99 percent of trf members chose 5 digit models over 6 digit models.

It's statistics so you know it doesn't lie.

You’re not alone! Prefer 5 series over newer ones on the Sub and GMT series

Feel better about being on the hunt for a 16600 to replace the new 126610.

Opposite - but I am also the guy that trades his car in every time the new version comes out. To my eyes your new sub crushes the other ones.

For me it’s Fit and feel that I notice. Wore the Daytona today to cut grass and the Gmt to chop wood. Sub is too heavy when I try to use everyday

To each it’s own. As long as you enjoy your watch, anything is irrelevant.

I like 5 digits on pictures only.
On the wrist they feel disappointing compared to a 6 digit.

A 4 digit classic I can understand for it’s typical vintage appearance. Might even buy a 1675 in the future but the 5 digits doing nothing for me.

Prefer new, never been able to afford a Rolex until recently, I have no knowledge or experience of the older models, so will stick to buying new from my AD.

Appreciate you’re in lockdown, but the only way to gain that knowledge and open your eyes is to get out and try some on. There’s a wonderful world of older models out there to be appreciated. But, it would take a very conscious decision to buy a 5 digit for the price of a 6 (assuming you could get the 6 that is).

There's certainly something very special about wearing vintage models. I love the idea of it - tried it multiple times but I just can't seem to 'bond' with the watch if I haven't bought it new. It always feels like I'm wearing someone else's watch (which is true in a way).

I much prefer the tool-watch way the old references were built and how they feel. If I could buy a 5 digit NOS GMT/SUB at a REASONABLE price, I 100% would.

By reasonable I mean slightly under today's MSRP... buuut we all know that won't happen.

I prefer 5 digit models as well, but that early 6 digit Panna you have there is gorgeous.

Well I love that you love your pieces and I tried forever to dig 5 digits, but they always come of chintzy and small to me.... I’ll keep my 6-digits.

I am not much of a five digit fan but have owned them and find them fun but way too expensive in the current market. I like the modern 6 digit watches and prefer the last generation Submariners and Daytona's to the new updated versions.

5 digits are OK. Im not a huge fan.

If I had the choice between a 5 or 6 digit - I'd always choose the 6.

I prefer 5 digit Rolexes. Better aesthetic with the face. With the newer ones the hour plots are too big like on the CHNR.

I have a 114060 which I love wearing but the 5 digits are the sweet spot in Rolex history IMO. I would love to put together a collection of "last run" 5 digits from the mid/late 2000's. I have a good start - the 16710 and 16570. Just need a 14060M, 16613, 16622, 16520, 14270, etc.

I like. 14270s are excellent buying currently. Could well be my next snag. If I could escape lockdown...
