Dropped my 116500. Have you...
OK folks, I'm fairly cautious with my watches so I can only recall a few "oh crap" moments of self inflicted damage. While working from home today, I actually knocked my 116500 right off the desk to the hardwood floor. Clunk, three feet down. I've had my new Daytona about a year, this was my first screw up with it. That's actually probably not bad! So, I'm sharing my "oh crap" moment. Tell us about yours so I don't feel so stupid. BTW: it seems to be working fine and I haven't found any noticeable damage. A couple pics of my goof.

That first photo looks staged, even though it possibly isn't ..

Looks like you got away with it.
I didn't take my Submariner Date off while attempting to remove the cutting deck from our ride on mower, two chips on the crystal edge after scraping it off the patio was my reward.. That's the worst I've done. |

No stage, I screwed up and as I went to pick it up (after a few choice words) it just hit me to post it, laugh at myself, and hopefully in good spirits you guys would tell about one of your screw ups. No other motive. I just don't want to feels stupid by myself. :(

I have, same exact watch as yours, and I had just gotten it. My story makes me look a bit more like an idiot though. I put the watch on my dog's head to take a picture (see?). My eyes wander for a fraction of a second and I hear a clunk. She was up on the couch so maybe 3-4 foot drop. Similar floor to yours, and no harm done.

I knocked one of my 116520's off the nightstand once, even after it's spill, it's the most accurate watch I own! The 4130 likes it rough!

The "shock" test that Rolex incorporates to their watches is the equivalent G-force of dropping from 48" to a hardwood floor.
If you check the timing over a few days, you are likely (hopefully) to see it still functions just fine. Roles is a tough watch.

He hit me dead on and took me for a ride on the hood down 41 in Naples. Good times. Fortunate for me he hit me at an intersection from a dead stop and not at speed. Cross walk, I had the go ahead and he was trying a right on red. Then he tried to leave the scene but another driver tailed him. SW Florida is a trip.

I dropped a Submariner a few years back and when it went for a necessary movement service a couple years later the technician said the likely reason for the issue was the drop, because the shock likely slightly perturbed the mechanism, leading to extra wear. So, while your watch may work now, it may have issues in the short-to-medium term. Also, with it being a Daytona, it might be more expensive to fix if you wait for a check up (I'm less sure about this last point).

Let's see:
- Dropped my 114060 and clipped about five door frames with it - Clipped my new LV on a piece of furniture coming home late because I didn't want to turn on a light - Smacked my CHNR in a chair as it was scooted out as I was passing by (left a nice mark) - Hit my OP39 on a glass partition at my Porsche dealer as I was telling a story (I seem to be very animated doing that) It's all part of the ownership experience. I think that you came out lucky with no damage to the watch (if it was a tile floor you'd be in a different boat) and maybe a little more cautious at the experience. |
