Lume age

How long does the lume on current modern 6 digit Rolex watches last for before fading?

Do 5 year old watches with the current lume begin to lose brightness?

Have we seen the current crop of watches with lume lose their strength with time?

It's dependent on a lot of factors such as thickness and layers of lume applied, size of the plots etc from what I can gather. So a Daytona won't last as long or glow as bright as a Sub.

I've not heard of the current Luminova based lume deteriorating with time and use. I believe that is the question and not how long the lume will be legible in the night.

Yes this, sorry I couldn't figure out how to word the question properly

I think it’s gonna be a long time. I had a 116710ln for 10 years. Wore it every day including lots of time in the sun. No noticeable chance at all in those 10 years

Lume is important to me in terms of overall function of a watch and have compared lume side by side on the same references from degrading Tritium, Luminova and Super Luminova, through to Chromalite on another watch.
Chromalite is the best Rolex offering of the modern era in every respect and is the most enduring throughout the night.
I have not detected any deterioration in any of mine in the day to day of life with a watch and have examples of the same reference from near the introduction of Chromalite, to recent times being a number of years apart.
Where as I have noticed significant deterioration in Tritium within an equivalent period of time or less.

Only fresh Tritium will do better day to day but will surely degrade to become ineffective.

Have confidence in Chromalite
Though it should be noted that all lume performance is largely dependent upon volume, so a divers watch with larger lume plots will be more effective in practical terms than what one would find on a Daytona.

I hope this helps

It should last a very long time. My 2004 shows no sign of lume wear and all plots glow equal just as well as the chromalight on my 2018 though not quite as bright. However I'm not a huge lume fan, I say it's over rated and to me they don't glow for very long anyway.
