Safety deposit box - watch in pouch or box?
Hi all,
When storing your watches in a safety deposit box is there any rhyme or reason to put it in with the presentation box or just in a pouch - reason I am asking is, is there any benefit to putting the boxes in also as different sizes are different amounts when using a safety deposit box, I was thinking it could be stored in a pouch and probably be fine? |

Safety deposit box - watch in pouch or box?
Dead space never makes sense. Especially with regard to storage. I would put it in a Rolex service pouch.

Pouch has always worked for me. Box takes too much space. Its only to prevent the watch from rubbing against other pieces it's not like vault is gonna be in a truck.

You can’t go wrong with a pouch in a box!

It depends on the size of your safety deposit box.
I used to have a small one, so I put in watch pouches, now I have a large size box so I put in watch rolls.

My AD gave me the coffin it shipped in. Keep my watches in my home safe but if I were going to store it in a safety deposit box I would use that.

The only concern I would have is if someone stole the boxes with the paperwork etc.
They are worth quite a bit. If they went missing your individual watches would be devalued as they would no longer be a complete set. I used to keep my watches in pouches in a smaller safe deposit box but ended up buying a larger safe and I now keep everything in the safe for peace of mind. |

I use a casebudi or oakley vault type container. Soft inside and hard outside. Flexible enough to cushion a drop. Highly recommended.

Pouch is fine. Check what insurance coverage is for your box if there is theft or damage. It may be better to get a good safe and keep the watch at your house.

I believe that if you are keeping watches in a safety deposit box you are viewing them as an investment, not something to wear frequently. Not a good investment idea in my view, other than perhaps vintage models.

Safe deposit box. Not “safety”. Sorry, it’s a pet peeve.
As for your question: most safe deposit boxes are not that big, which would preclude storing the original box. Something minimal in size with good padding and protection should suffice. It’s also a good idea to include a moisture-wicking desiccant packet. |

It doesn’t move when in a safe deposit box in the bank or your home so what is the point in using extra space storing in the box?

This may sound crazy, but stores the watches at home because I wear them. I actually stores the paper, card, and boxes in the safe deposit box.

Safe deposit box is 100/year. Insurance for the entire collection would be much more than that. I insure the best stuff and keep a couple uninsured models in rotation at the bank.

I have all the paperwork and watches in pouches in the bank safe deposit box. When I rotate I just walk to the bank and change watch, no big deal for me. The boxes would never fit and I see no point in storing them too, it is the watches and paperwork that has some value for me.

I've never done the safety deposit box thing. For me it wouldn't work, I need 24 /7 access to my watches.

I store my watches in the safe deposit box at the bank in the plastic shipping boxes the watch came in or the Rolex pouch. Don’t have large enough safe deposit box to fit all the boxes, etc. the warranty cards and receipts are either in the bank safe deposit box or in the safe at home.
Take pictures of the warranty card and the receipts. Also, if possible insure your watches, just in case... |

I just want to ensure you’re aware that the bank has zero liability for goods in a safe deposit box. If the bank had a loss (fire or flood for example), you would be required to claim losses on your own insurance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
