50 Years Ago (Explorer II)
The Explorer II was introduced. I do not believe that Rolex will harken back to the 1655. However, if we are to get a 50th anniversary model this year I believe it will have a splash of green. Here is a garbage photoshop but you get the gist. With the green gone from the GMT Master perhaps it will pave the way. Not saying I would buy it but to me it seems logical that this year will be the revamp of the 10 year old current production model.

I agree, probably (possibly) ceramic bezel and green hand, I also believe they will adopt the 41MM case size and the 3285 movement.

my skills are not good enough to insert the crown between swiss and made but agreed on that front. not sure about the size. i think they stay 42.

I say they drop it down to 40 or 41 mm on a jubilee.

I hope they keep the orange and hope they keep the steel bezel.
For green maybe they can offer some Jungle Explorer or something with a green dial. I wouldn’t like it, but it’ll get the green out of their system and keep the hand orange. |

Also as a 50th, I wouldn’t mind seeing a gold explorer. Yellow or white is fine. Platinum too.
Something that’s says “I’m a rugged explorer, and I prefer to explore for gold.” |

Hopefully they keep the orange. Feels really iconic (to me). Was never a fan of the red.

I'm hoping for an explorer II ceramic this year.

50 Years Ago (Explorer II)
I like the green 24hr hand idea.
My guess is a full PM variant in 42mm case size. Platinum bezel. |

I think a movement improvement will be made, no matter how minor. But externally, I think the orange hand stays (one of the last colors to go in the dark) but maybe the Explorer II font would be in green. Who knows?

I am very interested for curiosity’s sake but do not intend to hunt down whatever is ultimately released.

Rolex always seems to surprise us. I could see a two tone like they did with the Seadweller. I think the only thing we pretty much know for sure is they'll do something cool for the 50th anniversary model. Can't wait to see what they do!
