Welcome to the forum!
Don't know if you are familiar with: http://www.5513mattedial.com/PreCOMEX.html Great information. Look at the Pre-Comex dial.. |

Be patient and be picky. Educate yourself and study photos.
It is possible to score a really nice vintage 5513, but it takes some time and work, because theres so much out there thats been doctored up. Its not perfect by any means, but I picked this up on eBay a little over a year ago. |

In the 55 years I have owned my 5513 a number of Parts have been replaced. Some may be fake as indicated in some posts on TRF. The services on this watch were done on two visits to RSC in New York and more recently by some Cowboys in Texas named Ridley. If any of the parts are Fake so be it, I love my watch and how it looks. It runs dead on the money. A tip of the Cowboy hat to the Ridleys for doing a fine Job ! I'm a Happy boy !

OP take your time.
Learn, study and don't buy on impulse. Been there done that... Any matte iteration of the 5513 has its own beauty, some will please you more than others, but ALL are true Subs. If in doubt ask the forum. Many of us will help you out. Below is my Maxi MK1 dialed 5513 from 1979. Good luck! Best wishes Filipe |

Finding a decent matte dial 5513 is actually not terribly difficult if you are willing to pay a fair market price. They are amongst the most common Rolex vintage sport watch models and made for more than 15 years. Unlike uncommon references, you can go out and buy a nice legitimate 5513 example any time you choose. Virtually every dealer has at least one. Try finding a decent 1655, 1019, or 5512 from the same era, and you will understand what I'm saying.

I‘ve never liked those uniformly perfect orange-ish lume plots.
We‘ve had one seller from HK who sold these kind of watches „exclusively“ Imo all of his dials of that kind have been manipulated. A watch with honest patina looks much different |

And that is the challenge, to determine when a dial has been doctored and when it's original. Nothing new in the vintage Rolex world, weeding out the bad watches. Here's my 1665 that has original heavily patina'd lume and is completely uniform. They're out there. |
