Grand Seiko Forum

Not sure if anyone noticed, but excellent job by TRF for adding "Grand Seiko" to this discussion forum title. Previously, and for many years, is was just "Seiko." (Full disclosure: I had reached out to Steve to ask about it.)

As GS separates itself more and more from Seiko, I think the distinction is very important. GS boutiques don't even carry Seiko any more, so the Grand Seiko brand is clearly venturing more into the high-end watch market and separating itself more from lower-end Seiko.

And the watches of the two brands are very different, of course, arguably much more different than Rolex and Tudor, for example.

Thanks for your engagement. I would love to see a dedicated Grand Seiko Forum but it’s a start.

Yes, perhaps, but I'm not sure you'd get enough traffic on a separate Grand Seiko Discussion Forum, especially on an umbrella forum that gets the vast majority of its interaction from guys who are mostly Rolex lovers.

Also, Tudor doesn't have a separate discussion forum, so to streamline, I don't have a problem merging Seiko and GS into one. At least Grand Seiko is mentioned in the title now, which is great.

Nice! Well done, TRF.

Any step to help people understand that these are two very different products and companies is a good thing.

Maybe there should be a new thread "Which Grand Seiko Are you Wearing Today ...."

Right now, it's only "Which Seiko ....."

Probably should be separated.

Glad the distinction was made, but where does that leave King Seiko in the overall hierarchy? They're introducing a new dress watch this spring that looks like a real winner, hoping to see one as soon as they are available.

I believe "King Seiko" was discontinued as a sub-brand in the early 2000s. I think the new release to which you're referring is an homage/re-release by Seiko for its 140th anniversary, so it will have "King Seiko" on the dial even though it's really a Seiko.

I'm good either way. I'm not ashamed that my Grand Seikos are Seikos.
