Decisions decisions...

Hello Rolex Forum,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have always wanted a Rolex DJ. Grew up with seeing other people with it and being an iconic watch. I am finally able to get one, decided to treat myself after 6 months of studying for my SIE/series 7 (I work in finances).

I have never tried on a Rolex and not sure how they would fit, always just played around on Rolex's website. I go to Valley Fair in San Jose and walk into the AD, greeted by a great sales rep who was very helpful. Told her that I'm in the the market for a DJ41, two-tone, jubilee, champagne dial. She unfortunately didn't have my specs in stock but brought out one with a silver dial. It was a beautiful dial. I never bothered to look at silver dials when configuring out specs on Rolex's website and thought my heart was set on a champagne dial. She also brought out a 36 DJ with champagne dial as well to let me try on. I thanked her for her time and told her I'll be back once I decide on the dial color. Now I am torn between the two dials (I know...first world problems). I keep looking at pics online and sometimes I feel like I want the champagne and at times I want the silver.

Just wanted some opinions out there on the one you would choose. Any feedback or pics would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Haha, man, welcome to TRF. That’s why we have so many watches, because we can’t decide on just ONE to get.

Personally I’d get the silver dial, but it’s just my preference. They’re both beautiful dials. The good news is you’ll be happy with whichever you choose.

You can’t go wrong with either but I would get the one that you wanted initially as that’s the one that’s been on your mind. It shouldn’t be too long of a wait of you request for them to get you exactly what you want.

I'd go Champagne in this case.

Did you pass the 7? If so, congrats! I got it about 10 years ago and my firm only gave me a month (!) to study. That was stressful lol.

Wow...kudos for getting it done in 3 weeks. I studied like anything and everything was being tested hence why I studied so long. When it came to test time, it wasn't as hard as other made it out to be...maybe because I was overprepared. Heard stories of people failing multiple times.

Personally I would go with my Plan A and stay open to the possibility of one day owning both. It might sound frivolous, but isn't owning something like a Rolex rather frivolous to start with?

Personal choice? I don't like gold dials, although for some reason the thought of an all YG DD appeals to me greatly. Go figure! So for a DJ, I'd go silver. Except I wouldn't. I've poked and prodded around the DJ range for a few years and finally hit on my perfect DJ - the Sky Dweller!

See? There's no point in asking other people. We're all different. Like what you like. Buy what you want. You can't go wrong with either when all is said and done.

Congrats on both fronts! In terms of that combo, I would go for the champagne dial.

Hope you enjoyed the redesigned store at Valley Fair, sure beat the temp setup they had prior to converting over to a Rolex boutique.

It was a beautiful store. I didn’t know it was redesigned, no wonder it looked brand new and nice. I just assumed all Rolex stores looked like that.

I think y’all got me convinced to go with champagne dial!

So you saw both dials. This is one of those "you must choose" moments. So choose the one you like best. Don't pick one just because you can get it right away. I myself love the look of the silver though.

Also recently went to the AD to try on some datejusts. The champagne dial is really special, I would choose that over the silver.

Go for what you always wanted.

It’s a beautiful watch and they could have shown you practically any color and you would have liked it. You would have enjoyed it. But the one you dreamt about is the one you dreamt about for a reason.

You’re absolutely right. They could’ve probably shown me anything and I would’ve been impressed. I was excited just to be inside the store and to be in a position where I can actually purchase one. Thank you for your feedback! Appreciate it.

Congrats on passing the exam! You’re fortunate to get 6 months of studying. I took the SIE, Series 7 & 63 all in a 6 week period. I got myself a BLNR to celebrate passing the exams and a few other accomplishments!

Don’t settle. Get the watch you want!

Congrats to you as well! I have a new sense of respect for anyone who studies and passes these tests and especially on a deadline. Enjoy that BLNR. That is one amazing watch!

I’d go silver. It’ll be more versatile. The champagne dial is more jewelry like. Classic but for me looks dated. I got a DJ36 two tone for my wife. For my dad I got a day date 40 with silver dial because it would be mine one day and I knew I would never wear it if it had a champagne dial. Champagne is a little gaudy. Silver surprised you right? It has the gold stick accents that pop more on the silver dial. It’s a cleaner more refined look. Sure you had the champagne dial in mind but didn’t think or realize other options were nice as well. The silver dial will have a nice contrast with the stick markers the champagne will be an overwhelming dial and hide the stick markers. If champagne was a lot lighter I’d consider it. My opinion

You read my mind completely touching on the point that the gold stick accents pop more on the silver dial hence why I'm so torn between the two. That was the one thing I really liked about the silver dial was the contrast. Thanks for your input!

Oh wow! It's nice you can get a Rolex. And since you asked, I would go for silver. It's my preference because that color in my eyes seems to go better with any style of clothes and gray is one of the colors that is easiest on your eyes. And, according to experts, you won't get tired of looking at it.

But then, if you had your heart set on champagne, then you should follow your heart, because in the end, you might not grow to love the silver.

Now, have I made your decision even more difficult?

If possible, it would be great if you could have both in front of you and see which one sings the loudest.

Definitely a hard decision I wish I could see both in person. The sales rep said she could order the champagne but it'll required a 50% deposit that's nonrefundable. Not sure if I'll be able to get both in hands at the same time to consider.

Welcome to TRF and congratulations on the exam! I would go for the champagne dial you craved. You can always change the dial later, anyway.

Edit: I made the mistake of looking at the silver dial, and I think I prefer it as a one all-around watch. The champagne is more flashy. Now, if you are going to get a second Rolex, then maybe the champagne is okay for when you want more flash.

Silver hands down. It’s more versatile and less subdued but equally classy.
