GS SBGN005 9F GMT...part deux

A few years ago, I picked up this reference and it was my first HAQ 9F and first GS of any kind. Posted a thread and everything!

I judged very quickly that it wasn’t for me - I don’t think I sized the bracelet correctly the first time, disliked it’s 19mm width, posted it on another forum for sale, and sold it quickly after failing to bond with it.

I seem to recall having beef with its lume too, which is a position I’ve since reconsidered. It’s accurate to say the lume doesn’t glow like a torch in the manner the lume on my SNR029 does; however, with the finishing on the hands and markers on this GMT, and the beautiful way they all reflect and shine, the time is legible with nearly any ambient light.

It was my first GS and whatever my rationale was at the time, I started missing it after it sold and regretting that choice, appreciating this watch more in absentia.

After selling it, I missed how light it was on the wrist, it’s relatively svelte 39mm case/12.1mm height (which seems super thin to a guy who typically wears robust divers), the interesting and well-finished case, its beautiful blue dial, stunning finishing on the markers, pop of red on the GMT hand, and the grab-and-go convenience of having a high accuracy quartz watch to wear.







Stopped into my excellent local GS AD and righted my previous misstep over the weekend and I’m glad to have this one back. My regular SA there, who is a great guy, got a chuckle out of selling it to me a second time.












The bonus is that the color scheme on this watch compliments the array of Buffalo Bills caps I tend to rock. Really like this dial!

This is my third re-buy, I think, after SD 16600 and Tudor BB GMT. It would be best if I learned to consider my opinions on certain watches more carefully, but I’m likely to appreciate this one much more the second time around.

Thanks, guys. I’ve definitely joined the “seller’s remorse/re-buyer’s club,” but not to the tune of 3 hulks and blnrs...yet. Ouch!

AP, not sure how you feel about quartz, but size-wise, this guy is right in your wheelhouse - 39mm, 19mm bracelet, and even in SS, light as a feather on the wrist. Plus, relatively speaking, it’s reasonably priced, so maybe worth taking a gander at.

The blue dial’s killer and it’s the watch isn’t as busy as SBGE253/255/257, given the absence of the PR indicator and the odd hour indicators on the rehaut.

I told my guy at the AD I intend to sit tight for a bit - famous last words, I know - and that SBGE255 or 257 and SBGA231 are my next priorities.

We’ll see whether I can manage not to get distracted by other shiny things in the meantime, but I’m really enjoying Seiko/GS these days.

Quality is exceptional too, I am not surprised that two independent watchmakers are involved in crafting this piece. Same amount of attention and dedication go into these hand polished, applied markers and hands as the more expensive spring drives.

Also LOVE the dial. Sunburst blue sings in daylight, but is quiet and reserved at night and in low-light settings, taking on a deep dark blue that almost looks like a rich, lacquer black. Perfect pop of red on the GMT text and GMT hour hand.

Thanks and yes indeed, I rock Buffalo Bills gear with anything else I happen to be wearing and the colors of this watch happen to work nicely with them.

Thanks! Yes, I suspect it’ll be a keeper and it’s in heavy rotation at the moment, that’s for sure. Nuts about this dial.

This very same model is near the top of my wish list after discovering it a few weeks ago.
I think the bezel gives it a nice amount of sportiness other GS don’t have.
This coming from another person who is also into bigger divers.
