Warranty Card from an AD
I just bought a new Rolex from an AD and they left the warranty card blank (no name or date). Should I just leave it blank or is that a bad idea? Thanks

Its best to leave it blank, but at some stage you need to put in a date.
Keeping the name blank is good security. When you sell the watch, people wont know who you are etc. Specially if you trade it in and the dealer then on-sells the watch, its best to keep your privacy. |

This is a bit like playing Russian Roulette.
the Warranty, as stated on it, must be filled out at the time of purchase by the Dealer or it is not valid.. Carrying around a blank card is worthless.........filling it out at a later date, after inventory has shown a different sales date, and no invoice to back up any question that may come up concerning the discrepancy, may, or may not, work for you..

Interesting you should mention security. I bought a TT GMT II that, according to the warranty sheet was sold 6 months ago from an AD in my area. My wife looked up the name on the warranty sheet to see if there was a reason someone would sell such a nice watch so soon after purchasing it and she found several OWI's, arrests for domestic abuse and multiple civil suits pending.
If it's blank, I would leave it blank if only for this reason. I would claim that it wasn't my fault the AD didn't do their job. |

From what I can tell you only ever need the card if you need warranty work on the watch, sometimes you don't even need it for that. If you never need warranty work you never need the card.

I've seen blank warranty cards sell on ebay for upwards of $2000. Leave it blank for as long as you possibly can.

Like other have said, its a gamble. Rolex won't honor a warranty that hasn't been filled out. As far as the gamble part, Rolex might question a watch with a 15 year old serial # that is submitted for warranty service. It might help resale value later down the road but that's about it. |

I assume you have a sales receipt showing the date, purchase price and dealers name. That is important as proof of purchase and for insurance.
I would leave the warranty card blank for now. If you need warranty service and need the card, just return to your AD and have them fill it out at that time. You really should not be penalized in any way for the AD being sloppy and not doing what they should do as part of any Rolex sale. Mark |

OK, don't know, but how many people have had to use their warranty in the first two years anyway?
Other than sending it in to have it polished and adjusted for fun? What's the real breakage percentage?

The AD I bought mine from (less than a month ago) filled in my name and address....
By the book, isn't that how Rolex require it to be? I'm quite happy with that..... on a side note, wouldn't leaving it blank in order to keep "it's value" imply that it could be sold on to less scrupulous individuals for nefarious reasons!!? why would we do that? EDIT: whoops! just thought, without the actual watch with matching serial, the card would be pointless anyway I guess... my bad sorry! Last edited by michael69; 24 July 2009 at 06:42 AM.. Evidently ADs have their own rules. I received my card 35 days later, because of a 30 day return policy, from the AD filled out. The AD stated that the cost of replacing the card was 50.00USD.

I just bought my Rolex and after 10 days I called the AD and asked when I would get the Warranty card, and they said they fill it in and send it on day 35 which is after the 30 return policy. They said it costs them to change the cards after they are printed and if I were to return it or exchange it before the 30 days were up, it would cause a problem. So I guess in about 25 more days I will get my card printed with all my info.

The AD dated my warranty card but left the name blank. A few weeks later I sent the watch and warranty card (still unnamed) to RSC London for realignment of the hour hand, and they never said a word about the name not being completed. I guess as long as you're the original purchaser and can prove it with a receipt (although I didn't need to in this case), you're never going to have any problems whether you complete the name or not. So if you're buying new I would leave the name blank, just in case you decide to sell later.
