Which Rolex did you hate and now love?
It happened to me. I didn't like the Datejust and life circumstances led me to own a Datejust 16234. Now that I have other watches, even more expensive ones, I can't take it off my wrist and it is my daily watch.
Has that ever happened to you with a watch? |

That’s what happened to me with Rolex in general. In my early years I hated Rolex as a brand, swore I’d never wear one. I didn’t like the cyclop and thought that the people who wore Rolex watches were d-bags.
Then one day I actually saw a Sub on somebody’s wrist and I fell in love instantly (with the watch). I ran out and bought my first Rolex that year and haven’t looked back since. I don’t think that’s really what you asked, but I am prone to the occasional tangent. |

Hate would be too strong a word. But this watch can sometimes be so badly presented, that I used not to like it. Now I think it is one the most beautiful Rolexes ever.

I didn't hate the 126719BLRO meteorite per se, but at first I thought it was just too busy and much prefer the iconic, classic look on the SS 126710BLRO.
But the more I see it the more I start to appreciate its uniqueness and beauty. Now it has become one of my grail pieces.

Didn't hate it, but I never liked the DSSD when it was first released due to the mix of fonts.
Once the MK II came out I totally stumbled upon it and fell in love straight away, so much so that I literally bought it right on the spot. Hate is such a strong word, and I'm not sure i could ever actually hate a watch |

Just as another member stated before, i too used to dislike Rolex, thought of it as a jewelry poser brand.
Luckily, i've started looking for info on them, to see why the fuss about Rolex, and i realized i was wrong, they produce one of the finest watches with various functions that one would actually use on a daily basis. Regarding the og question, i "hated" black YG TT models and the SkyD. The 116713 and 116503 black changed that for me, now i appreciate them differently. While i came at terms with the SkyD, i can't say i love it or would love to own one, it's too big for my liking, but some of the refs are quite stunning. Also disliked the cyclop lens, now i'm completely fine with it. |

Fast forward a few years (right before the Rolex shortage) I tried on a Sub at a duty free store in an airport and loved the way it wore (mind you that I was only trying to pass time waiting for a flight). Ever since that moment, I got more drawn into the aesthetic and quality of Rolex watches. As silly as it may sound, that moment in the airport built a flimsy foundation for where my enthusiasm for Rolex watches currently stand. I think that was my "whoa, this is nice" moment. But to answer your question, I truly developed more appreciation for some of the dressier offerings in particular in the past few years, which include DJ's and Oyster Perpetuals. Might just be a side effect of me aging! |

I didn’t like the Dblue when it was first released. Of course I’d only seen it in pictures.
When I finally saw one in person, I bought it on the spot. |

Hate is a strong word, very much dislike blingy diamond men’s Rolex watches...on men specifically. Sorry but it just doesn’t compute to me...unless you are Michael Jackson and his YG diamond DD looked completely natural to me lol

The Hulk for me. I just could not pull the trigger on it as it was just soooo green. But over time I started to look at it in a better light but finally added it a few years ago and love it.

I have always liked and appreciated the watches but I was put off by the Jubilee bracelet and that 70's-80's vibe. It seemed like every shady type from that era had the TT DJ on Jubilee with the champagne dial. An exaggeration on my part but I did not associate the jubilee bracelet with quality or class at the time. We change and I have a BLRO and a BLRN on the jubilee and find them to be excellent for appearance, wear and functionality.

The BLNR on jubilee. I didn’t like it at all when seeing it via photos. It didn’t appeal to me. When I saw it in person, it was a different story, I had to have it!

Daytona (too small) and anything with a fluted bezel and/or jubilee bracelet (for old people).
But now I'm old and nuts about Daytonas. |

I always preferred RG and YG over WG, except this model, I think Meteorite dial looks best with WG.

Didn’t appreciate gmt or skydweller when first saw them but now coming around. Poor timing to become a fan of Rolex though.

Every time I see a white 16570, I'm reminded about how nice it is, and it makes me like the 216570 less and less.

This. In the late 90s while in college I worked as a sort of errand boy for a local AD. Part of my job was to put watches in the case every morning and I remember thinking “who would buy this orange/brown thing?” Seems maybe it was even on a jubilee. Now I get it. I love the quirkiness of it. Unlike any other GMT. |

The Hulk. Thought it was too much green but then saw it in the wild. Went to my boutique that weekend and pick one up. This was a few years ago when you could walk in and get a SS Rolex

I wasn't a fan of TT models but that made a 180 turn when I first saw the Rootbeer.

Never thought I’d own a Sub Date, I used to hate the cyclops.

I initially felt the Polar Explorer was too loud, and I wasn’t nuts with the steel bezel. Tastes can completely change. Now I’m hoping they don’t change the design too much or that my AD gets one in before the change, particularly if they go ceramic.
