Day-Date 40 shortage in the U.K.

I recently decided to look at adding a DD40 to my collection and thought that this would be readily available so was surprised to be informed that these are also difficult to obtain.
I have been informed by several ADs that the wait could extend as much as 2 years and, due to the shortage/Rolex policy there is no chance of any discount!
I was of the opinion that it was possible to get a decent discount on a PM model - I have always understood that this was the case for SS models but is that now the case for gold models as well?
I would also appreciate some input on how this wears as I have not owned a gold watch before?

Most ADs in my area are the same..No discount, and a wait time for PM pieces but not a 2 year wait

+1. Doubt the 2 year wait. Op. - Discounts on dd40 are hard to find especially if we are talking wg piece.

Yg. Def likely to get a discount since harder to move.

No discounts. The incentive is the lure of a SS coming your way

The previous notions regarding PM references being available and available at discount are no longer valid.

The true power of the Rolex brand has been unleashed and PM references prices are aligning with customer expectations and in some cases seen as a "value". This negates the need of any kind of discount to sell the product and creates waiting lists as the references are so popular now that demand far exceeds the allocated supply.

Plenty of DD40s sitting in cases at every AD in New York.

Come to the Big Apple and we will take care of you.

I got a YG DD40 in 9/20 with about 15%off MSRP. It depends on your locale and AD.

There is no Rolex policy on discounts. For the most part, an AD doesn't need to give a discount on a Rolex. So they don't. By the same token, if an AD wants to give you a 50% discount, they can. Although I wouldn't hold your breath for that!

Reach out to DavidSW. They can get you a thing you want, fast. I think it’s all about location. 3 month wait here in Missouri, USA.

The few ADs I visited no discount but I don’t think it’s due to Rolex policy, for the PM the wait may not be up to 2years.

No real discounts to be had in the popular models in the UK.

Unfortunately some are purchased and horded by those hopefully that Instagram will send the price upwards and they can make a few bucks if selling privately. Dealers will wipe out that margin. It will take a few months if asking an AD for SS. Not that difficult to source.

Thanks for the input guys, my AD are suggested 6 months to a year so not so bad.
Can anyone advise how they wear? - I would certainly like to wear it regularly in rotation?
Not being able easily to adjust the size is something that concerns me.

Good luck with your quest. I walked in to WoS last July when they were open and they had the Everose Olive green dial and were insistent that I tried it on as they were so bored without customers I think. It is a gorgeous watch but well out of my league-seemed very comfortable, a good heft but not unusually so. You may get lucky-I suppose it depends on the configuration you are after but definitely worth asking around.

It wears great, president bracelet is something special. I did need a 1.5 link to get the perfect fit unfortunately... it cost an extra $750 US

Do you know where are these available to buy online?

I'd definitely buy one as I where mine with all links in, but would rather have a slightly more snug fit.

I got mine from a local AD. Was no issue ordering it, got it in just a few weeks.

Plenty of brand new DD 40 at 5% OFF or at MSRP readily available on chrono24 from professional sellers .. And that's without any price negotiations .. Though, most of them are in the EU, not sure how that would work for someone in the UK now ..

ALOT of chrono listings are fake. Go try to buy them at the discounted prices. You will get a message saying out of stock and not available.

Depends on the one you are after, my AD has this in the case.

Will get something very similar as my next buy, it looks (and feels) brilliant.

Interestingly, this very same combo was readily available in AD in Milan back in December .. However, I remember they were willing to provide only 500 EUR off the MSRP ..

On average, I’d say about four months wait. They have to be ordered from Geneva, which means factory fresh.

Yes. There is wait lists for pretty much everything in the catalog regardless of price. Rose gold is the hottest PM color right now. DD40s are more readily available in YG or WG, but try finding a RG w/ olive green or chocolate roman dial from an AD.

My AD and the boutique told me that RG D-D 40mm olive dial is the hardest to get now, even harder than most SS sport models.
