Bremont Hawking - Collectable?

I thought this was interesting...stumbled across a Bremont Hawking at a local watch store this weekend and was immediately attracted. It’s unique, nice looking and versatile, dressy or casual kind of watch. Upon closer inspection, an interesting complication in the retrograde seconds hand, and...a meteorite disc, a depiction of the sky the night Hawking was born, along with 4 wooden planet depictions made from Hawking’s desk embedded in the case back. Watch is a limited edition, definitely unique, and a little controversial based on some of the reviews. Normally, I would say overpriced at almost $9.6k dollars out the door, but it’s got the wheels turning. I’ve been holding off, waiting on a new Sub and this is the closest I’ve come to pulling the trigger on something different. Concerns for me is what I think is a new and unproven movement along with what I perceive as a weak point in the gator strap at the spring bar attachment point. Obviously a personal preference, but any opinions on lasting value?

If you value it that's all that matters.

Sir,
My cousins in London tell me that Bremont is really big in the UK - especially amongst the Rolls Royce, Bentley and Astin Martin owners. The logic behind it is because it’s a British made watch and therefore it pairs well with the other great British autos....
As far as scarcity or appreciation in value on the watch I don’t know if that will come true.
Nonetheless my good man, if you love it, then buy it and enjoy the watch.

Can't find out much about the movement, wonder where they got it from.

It's expensive but if you are a fan of Mr Hawkins and want some chopped up pieces of him in your watch then go for it, cos that is what you are paying for.

Nothing Bremont is collectable or will hold value, but if you love the watch then enjoy it in good health!

So I guess it’s really strong in the UK

Bremont is pure marketing with some innovation. Interesting design and material combos. That's about it.

But never buy a watch as an investment. If you must do so, you're playing a wrong game. Buy and wear what you love.

I have to agree, just saw one on flea bay at $2k below the store price. This piece is definitely more about the man than the watch. Still, very nice looking, with good presence and size IMO.

Wut? No.

They're a cynical marketing ploy and we in the UK are well aware of this fact.

Its a Bremont, so that is unlikely.

They don't seem to have trouble churning out these special editions every couple of weeks.
