Datejust 1984 countrycode 902

Hi,

I bought a 1984 datejust with box and papers. Curious if it is good or bad that the papers are not signed by a dealer and what the country code 902 (Aafes Germany) actually means.

AAFES is a US military post exchange. This one was apparently located in Germany.

I can't answer that authoritatively, but I was stationed in Giessen, Germany around that time and the PX was just a small department store. You could order Rolex watches through their catalog, but I doubt anyone there would have known much about them, or that they came with any paperwork that should be signed. So I don't know how common it is, but it doesn't surprise me.

Base Exchanges are not a typical AD, and Rolex used to allow them to order directly for purchase by the military.

Much of what got ordered was picked up by the GI as it came from the manufacturer

I have a DJ from 1988 with matching papers with 902 stamp.
It is from a NATO Base in Giessen that closed somewhere in the early 2000's.

Unfortunately during that time, there was no digital database to find and track out the owner/purchaser of that time. I tried to figure it out because I was really curious who the first owner/purchaser of my DJ was.

For what I have seen on the internet, it is not common that a paper like yours isn't stamped by AAFES and its base.

Next to the perforated country code, the stamp from AAFES gives proof that it was purchased by a GI and at that time, via AAFES you received discount on purchasing the watch
