Federico should go for a jog before calling the Rolex Money Printing Company lazy. He doesn't wear an Explorer, so I wouldn't expect him to get the attraction to the line. He should still understand it has been developed to serve a roll within the watch community. Which it does do, and will do, quite well. Refined EXPII is excellent IMO, and exactly what I was hoping for. Can't wait to buy a new polar.

So whats new? Every unveil people expect monumental changes then get disappointed. Rolex doesn't change because it doesn't have to, plus if they made drastic changes people would bemoan that as well.... same story every year

Who cares? He's a dealer.

He's giving his personal and impartial (cough, cough) opinion...sure.

Just like the ones where he's promoting other brands. The ones he can actually buy.

Of course he hates Rolex, just not for the reasons he says.

I’m done with buying anymore new Rolex’s, probably going to sell my MK2 Explorer if the price goes up.
The only thing I really want is a five digit Pepsi at a sensible price but I might have to wait a while for that if ever. Nothing in the current line up is tempting me to part with my money let alone paying 2x retail.

I haven't watched the video and probably won't as I think he's unwatchable.

As far as this release from Rolex, what was lazy about it? Aren't most of their releases "subtle"?

I think the Exp II was a nice upgrade. It's meant to go rock climbing and cave wandering in, not flashy with a bezel that will crack if banged against a hard rock with. IMO, they did a great job with the new Exp II.

The Exp I was also a nice change back to 36mm. Still a little confused about the TT but maybe they feel Exp I is not used in the same settings as Exp II is nowadays?

As someone stated above, his reasons for hating Rolex go beyond the new releases.

He's just throwing a temper tantrum. Most dealers like him gambled on some big changes and they were completely wrong. It is what it is, videos like this one are just Peanuts parents to me.

We need real honesty in these forums full of weirdly brainwashed fanboys... Rolex owes no one anything and are open to this criticism. Good on Fed.

I own a Polar Exp2 and had a black Exp2 till last year. To me it is a tool watch, designed to survive the rigors of outdoors or mountaineering or cave exploring. Its steel fixed bezel, milky white dial and contrasting orange GMT hand are all meant to serve specific purposes. Not sure what Rolex could have changed on the watch other than improve on its existing features.

I am glad ROLEX as a company does not make changes for the sake of making changes.

They did just release all the new submariners middle last year. I think the problem was the build up, but that is their marketing departments job.

So much speculation and dealers eating up yellow-gold green daytonas and platonas at high prices, now they are forced to find buyers at those idiotic levels... frankly the green/gold daytona is straight-up TACKY in my book.

Meanwhile the true gem of the ENTIRE Rolex line-up, the 39mm Explorer 1, was sold at relative bargain prices.... Well, up 'til now.

It’s like redesigns of the 911. They do what they want with subtle progression. Fans bemoan the progress or lack thereof. Doesn’t matter to the company. They sell them all.

To be fair.. aren't Rolex known for only making very incremental changes to their line up.

Imagine thinking a good business model would be to take your product - that you cannot keep in stock and people cannot get enough of - and throw it away and start all over because.........change, amirite?

There is a reason I have no idea who this guy is.

Never seen him before, and I can't say I warmed to him, but objectively he's spot on.

Todays "new" releases simply ARE lazy, timid, disappointing, and frankly downright boring. They could've done literally ANYTHING to the Exp II to make it "special" in some way for the anniversary..... but no. All just too scary for Rolex's designers to try something new I guess.

(Incidentally I say this as someone who had zero intention of buying anything new from Rolex this year as everything is now 32xx-based which I'm steering well clear of, but I was still hopeful of some decent eye-candy from them).

Who cares what some YouTube blogger thinks. Rolex will be around long after him, and people buy them reguardless of some random guys worthless opinion.

Far from lazy. If anything, it's strategic.

With the market madness of late, this is probably a chance to fill orders on existing watches to keep clients happy with a subtle shot to the hoarders/flippers who think Rolex is an asset class of it's own.

Maybe it's the AD's selling back door. Maybe it's retail customers flipping. Either way I hope someone gets burned and we have some normalization.

Click bate. This isn’t hard math here, Rolex is and always will be extremely conservative and slow with any sort of change. You got a long over due updated Submariner last year. That’s as wild as you get every 5-10 years with Rolex.
If you’re looking for new and exciting releases every year you’re going to have to look at other manufacturers. With Covid and dealers that have little to no stock this year there is no reason to get that excited regardless. Rolex owners are always the fussiest and will complain regardless what Rolex does every year.

No, he’s not.

When Porsche dropped the 911GT3, they didn’t say “you know what, let’s take our really successful product and just completely change it. Let’s make it look like a Ford (no offense to Ford) just to mix it up. Wouldn’t that be great?”

The American NFL, which just prints money, doesn’t change the game/teams/product annually just for the sake of change; they have a product killing the market, and now just get out of the way. It’s been that way for decades now.

Rolex did not need to do anything to the Explorer 2 - or any other model, really. The demand for the “same” Explorer 2 will not move at all, whatsoever, despite it being “boring.” After people are done ranting, and even assuming a 1-2 people “leave,” 3 or 4 will rush to take their place.

Is the Explorer two tone hideous? Absolutely, IMO. That’s a completely irrelevant aside.

But it defies logic and business reason to take something that is red hot and mess with it, purely for the sake of “change.”

Fed is just sore that Rolex is outselling the typically-tired watch brands he sells in his website. Brands that are more likely than not to go extinct in the next 5-7 years.
