Does cheap watch winders affect the accuracy of a Rolex?

My girlfriend bought me a cheap watch winder as a present and I wonder if it's a good idea to use it for my Rolex watches... I read in a few threads that it might magnetize the movements but other threads say its fine. So I'm unsure right now. I have the Hulk and Pepsi and I rotate between these two every day. But sometimes my Hulk power reserve doesn't last long enough (not sure why) so I'm thinking about using the watch winder for the Hulk at least

Cheaper winders have come a long way in better quality and parts. It just doesn’t cost as much today to make a competent programmable watch winder. All you need for those watches is 650 turns per day bi-directional.

My recommendation is to read the operating manual of the winder. If the watch required 650 turn per day, that mean total turns per day. On my winders, I have to set the TPD to 340 in bi-directional mode. There is also setting to wait X numbers of hours before starting the next cycle. This helps to unwind the watch for that duration.

I'm surprised your watch can't keep going for two days between winds. Have you thought about winding it up when you take it off?

Magnetization is not an issue. However make sure you are not 'over winding' your watch. The winder ideally should have turns per day (TPD) options. Rolex advises 650 TPD. Although many also say it's all nonsense and there is no such thing as over winding. I'm not really sure but with the money I spend on these watches I don't want to take a chance.

I’m not sure how to do the math but there’s two options on my watch winder. One is 2 min clockwise rest 6 minutes then 2 minute anti-clockwise rest 6 minutes repeat. The other is 5 minutes clockwise then 5 minutes anti-clockwise for 3 hours then rest for 9 hours.

Which one should I choose and does that exceed 650 turns per day?

The only winder any Rolex needs are what the watch was designed and most got two called wrists.On a machine there could be slight differences in accuracy compared to on the finest winder in the world your own wrists.Most of these machine things just go back and throe on the same repetitive plain and axis.But when they time tested the movement its timed in 5 different positions to mimic what goes on while on the wrist.Its a simple task to let any watch just stop and rest,then when needed just manually wind set and go must take all of 30 seconds to do.

Not a problem and they make a lot of sense if you rotate different watches.

For your situation I'd suggest a Wolf single watch winder. Dead quiet, not too expensive, and no worries on magnetism

I believe every 2 minutes it should turn on for one full turn equals about 650 TPD total. That would be what you need for Rolex 31 and 32 series of movements.

If we are working outside should we take the watch off at noon to avoid over winding???

Overwinding is not an issue. Anyone who is active winds a watch more by using it than a winder does.
