Shipping my Rolex

Hey guys,

So I got a great offer for my PM Rolex that I’m planning to sell. The only way I can get it to the buyer (buyer is a legit watch dealer, so no issues in that) is through shipping the watch via a courier service. Now I know plenty of you guys here send watches through courier services all the time, it I have never done it and I’m a little worried/ hesitant.

Which courier service shall I use? What happens if the package is misplaced or wrongly delivered? What happens if the watch gets damaged during shipping? How am I to safely pack my watch?

For those of you who have experience in this field. Can you fives some tips and feedback. Thanks In advance

P.s Im in the US and have to courier the watch from one state to another.

Let the watch dealer set up the shipping if at all possible. Then he/she can send you a label and box it up and off it goes. Most legit dealers have corporate accounts with insurance. If you sent personally through UPS/FedEx it won't be insured. You would then need to go through the USPS which will allow you to insure it.

If it’s a legit and reputable dealer who’s buying, they should coordinate it all for you with their preferred shipper or courier. All you should need to do is pack it up and label it per their instructions.

100% correct and my experience.

I have sent watches directly through FedEx to private parties but I do not send directly to the buyer, rather to a FedEx office nearby where the receiver must sign before pick up.

Yes he would probably send me his own label and box. But my concerns mentioned above still remain the same. If it goes missing or is damaged during shipping then what?

He (the dealer) will insure it.

Box it up well, lots of paper, peanuts or whatever. Inside the Rolex box, wrap the watch itself in thin bubble wrap, then fill the rest of the Rolex box cavity with bubble wrap to keep things from moving around.

You should be good to go.

I've shipped watches many times and never had an issue. Just make sure the dealer has it insured - that's the most important thing. Good luck

This.

Also, if you're going to be buying / selling more watches, I would highly recommend a Parcel Pro account.

Dealer sort it

Reputable ones ship in and out, on account, insured, multiple times a day.

Video the boxing.

Good that the dealer stepped up here. Private sale to a Fedex location is good advice, but as said, you can't insure it for value.

Would also consider shipping it with the crown pulled out so movement/hands are in neutral. Had a buyer complain of (very) light scrapes on the dial of an Omega Seamaster. Wasn't there before shipping, per photos.

Looking for comments for the experience of others on this...

The watch should be insured for sure. Also use a lot of bubble wrap. You can wrap the watch itself inside the box if it will fit. Then bubble wrap the watch box itself and you should be good to go

I second Parcel Pro. Best service to ship jewelry.

This right here. Also, get your receipt from the carrier.

Beyond letting the seller handle the specifics, I would definitely get it in writing that they have insured and/or bear full responsibility for the transit. It might not be a terrible idea to take a video of the watch immediately prior to packing (to show the condition) and a video of you packing the watch itself and then sealing the box. I've generally done this when sending higher value items and it was once beneficial when making an insurance claim (although it was not a jewelry item).

Thankyou for the helpful advice. Is there a video online or maybe you guys have made one on how to pack the watch correctly. That would be really great

You mean make a video while I’m packing the watch?
