Slate Dial

I’ve passed on Rhodium dial Yachtmasters in the past because I had another watch I was pursuing at the time each time one presented itself to me. However, I was a huge fan each time I saw it. It’s now towards the top of my list and I noticed last year they switch from Rhodium to Slate dials. The general consensus is that they are virtually the same and it was just a name change or such a marginal change you can’t tell. So I’m good with that.

However, I am also considering upgrading my SkyD to a RG version and notice they have a Slate dial RG and the dial looks to be a different color that the Slate dial Yachtmaster. Is it the subdial playing a trick on the eyes, is it just the picture is off, or are they not really both Slate dials?

Slate Dial

The one on the Sky D seems to be a bit darker on the pictures, but it may be the same and just a difference in the picture lighting

It may be the photo or even how the color appears different to the eye due to the RG?? I recently bought a Rhodium/Slate YM right around the time of the name change. If you search, I started a few threads on this very question. I went crazy trying to verify whether it was just a name change or a color variation.
I can say it was just a name change as the dials are identical and as much as one can get anything official from Rolex, between talking to owners, SAs and actually comparing an 11 series with mine I was satisfied. It was important to me because that Rhodium sunburst was the driving reason for wanting the watch. Good luck!

Rhodium, slate, or grey, its just a term for the colour paint in most cases on a brass dial nothing more.

Hi All - I checked with the Rolex service centre about this - was also driving me crazy - they told me it was the same - they have the replacement dials and there is no change between Slate and Rhodium. I also loved the dial and was reason for purchase, so was happy to learn it was the same....

Too bad Rolex didn't go with an actual solid rhodium dial. Looks great though.

I think the chocolate is a lot nice than the slate dial on the sky dweller personally. I don’t wear rose gold myself though yellow all the way for me :)7

The RG Slate Sky Dweller is Stunning. My brother in law has one on oysterflex. Beautiful watch.
