Widely regarded as one of the best dive watches around, the Black Bay lit the world aflame when the 79220R stepped on the scene at Baselworld in 2012. Recognizable at a distance thanks to its burgundy bezel and SuperLumiNova on the hands and hour markers that lend a vintage flavor, the Tudor Black Bay immediately sets itself apart from its diver kin. Adding to the profile are Tudor’s signature “snowflake” hands that spin thanks to the modified ETA movement. Destined to become a collectible, the pre-in house movement is denoted by the “Tudor Smile” on the dial, in reference to the shape taken by the text at the 6 o’clock position. Set on a Red Camo Horus rubber strap that is so soft and comfortable it could be fabric, the Tudor 79220R is a special piece of watchmaking history and represents the resurgence the Geneva brand has experienced in the past decade.
