"Protect Prices..." lol need realistic prices not based on social media hype and people just buying to "invest".

The whole thing is a house of cards, imo. None of these watches are rare. It has gotten so out of hand that everyone is a watch "dealer." There are youtube videos on how to be a watch dealer. There are YouTube watch dealer "stars" selling access to their Facebook group to get special access and pricing. It all feels reminiscent of the housing bubble. People who had no business flipping homes or paying too much for homes they couldnt afford are the ones who got burned. It feels late cycle to me. That said, bubbles can go on far longer than most can imagine.

Good on him for talking about it. I would go further though and say there is a bit of price fixing too.

The demand far outpaces supply so I doubt there will be much softening in the foreseeable future. I never saw mechanical watches doing so well. I thought wearable devices would end the industry, but I was wrong.

Watch his videos - seems like a stand up guy. If there I would not hesitate to buy from him. He colabs with Paul T too. Can't judge a guy from a thumbnail.

I had a similar discussion with my local grey dealer that is well known on TRF. They have a nice store front. The advice on the video relative to which Rolex model sells at a premium or discount is consistent with what he said.

Actually happy to hear that he believes the SD43 is an undervalued watch and could go for more of a premium based on what he's seen.

He speaks on behalf of watch dealers too. I’ve seen some of his videos and he does appear to be a stand up guy. I have no doubt some greys are in collusion to keep prices as high as possible....why wouldn’t they? It’s in their best interest but the rub is when they try to fly the flag of looking out for the watch buyer as well. Conflict of interest.
The economic principles of supply and demand can’t work properly when collusion is in play.
All IMHO

Everyone seems to be a dealer these days, in the UK at least. Dozens of them on Instagram and Facebook trading exclusively in new, unworn Rolexes with the aid of a business card and a highly creative business name like 'Timepiece Trader UK' or similar. Most of their stock consists of Datejusts marked up by a thousand pounds or so, just as the guy in the video mentions.

Can't fault them for it really - easy way to make money at the moment. It's the idiots who are buying from them who need to have a word with themselves.

Oh to be in the grey market dealer group and text each other about this thing and that thing, must be nice to pull the strings.

How did we get here? This grey world I don’t understand, nor do I want to. I go to my AD, if I can get the watch great. If I can’t right now I wait. If it never comes in who cares. This entire game is a mess.

That philosophy isn’t universal. Other shoppers would rather not wait and are willing to pay a premium for the convenience of getting any watch they want the next day. These are the customers who care.

On this past Saturday I stopped by my AD and there were at least 15 datejust watches in 31 and 36, all different dials options with or without diamonds, they also had some Cellinis and YM TT 37 in chocolate dial! So, it’s not that hard to find those watches. They were sitting in the case.

Yeah I guess they can’t wait. Patience is virtue.

I like David's videos but this one dragged on forever and was just an excuse to put "Rolex" in the title.

If it’s only a matter of waiting, grey prices won’t be so high.

People pay those prices and cultivate expensive relationships because they don’t believe their turn will ever come even if they choose to wait.

Completely agree. Today’s world of Amazon, get things when I want it, it feeds the impulsive buyer. Too easy to Google it, put it in the shopping cart, click purchase, and then the justification starts to convince yourself it is ok to pay 20k for a 9k SS watch. People have every right to sell what they want at any price, as there will be people that will buy it. Just not my bag.

There is so much artificial crap and hype with way too much money all stacked on this Rolex house of cards. It won’t end well on many levels as it will eventually come crashing down. Fads always do and the people that are new buying into the brand are not long term players. That’s not a popular believe as all this money has to keep selling the illusion to keep the money train going as long as it can before it runs off the tracks. Buyers don’t want to look foolish paying too much and sellers need the new buyers to think this is all normal paying x2 retail. This is exactly like the pyramid schemes in the late 80’s.
