I have 2 Rolex's and they both need servicing. Local shop is looking for $700 a watch? is this the going rate?

What is the going rate for a cleaning and updating? I got a quote of $700 for my watch to be sent off? i have a sub mariner and yacht master? They are not keeping good time...Thanks

I Paid 850 for a 168622 to be sreviced and polished at RSC. No new parts were needed so that was the final cost.

I’d send them to RSC personally.

If a shop is going to charge you RSC rates, you may as well send it to the RSC yourself.

If you are looking at a good independent shop, with CW21 watchmakers and a Rolex parts account, they may work for slightly less. Shopping price may lead to a quickie shop that will clean and oil your watch, but they might not completely disassemble it and replace the necessary worn or out of tolerance parts without jacking up the price.

Well depending on what watches you want servicing the $700 is perhaps near to RSC cost and that's what I would recommend.

+1

I send everything to Dallas RSC, would never let anyone else do it. It may cost more but the peace of mind is worth it.

My only experience was a local independent shop that charged RSC prices and I was unhappy. Watch ended up with smudges on hour markers, the crown seemed gummed up. I gave them a chance to clean it up and they made it 50% better. What a hassle.

Next time will be RSC and hoping for a better experience.

As others have said, for that price take it to RSC.

And personally I wouldn't "cheap it out" on a decent watch anyway. You want it done right and you want genuine parts, so local watchmakers wouldn't be my first port of call. Yes there are some specialists who arguably do a better job on vintage pieces simply because Rolex will always try to return a watch to factory specs/condition, but other than that, RSC is always the best bet IMO.

It is the going rate yes, for a RSC.

Take it there and get your timepiece treated how it should be.

My opinion would me to take them to the most trained source with the knowhow, factory parts and access to the latest technical data for any changes or procedures to execute the best repair possible. I always return mine to the factory for repairs or service.... Especially for proper factory gaskets for water resistance and water pressure testing.

Who better to repair your watch than the people who manufactured it?

RSC for me.

I just dropped an early 90s day date off at my local watch shop. The day\date wheel broke when I was doing a quick set. The price quoted was $700.00 plus parts. But this included repair AND service.

100% send to RSC yourself. The dubious outcome from anywhere else will haunt you forever, even if the watches return unscathed and seemingly ok, you still won’t know whether they’ve been serviced correctly or even at all. Some movement parts are automatic direct replacement at service, whereas some independents (not all) skimp on these items. As an example, I had a very reputable (30 yrs in business) local watchmaker service my Daytona Zenith, the watch came back fine, but the losing of time wasn’t resolved. I sent it to RSC and paid again, and guess what? The watch came back with the following in a baggy;

1. Old Crown stem and crown
2. Old chronometer pushers
3. Old Autowind oscillator

Point 3 was why the watch was losing time, since the bearings had perished.

Food for thought. Send to RSC.

Count me another vote for RSC. Just received my Daytona back, looks great for a 20 year old watch, has a 2y warranty. All for $850. The AD handles everything.

Do not send it anywhere but RSC....no independents, no local watchmakers, no nothing...

I'm not a huge fan of RSC, and things can and often do go wrong, but at least they are in the BEST position to make things right it in event that you're unhappy or if one of their techs mess up

RSC, no question

I recently got a quote for $750 for a Sea Dweller service so similarly in line with others from RSC.

I just got my 16600 SD back from Dallas RSC today. Z serial that had never been serviced before, I requested a full service without refinishing case/bracelet. Grand total was $815, $750 service and $65 shipping/handling fee.

I had my Daytona serviced by my AD who is an authorized service center. Honestly not sure what the difference is between the RSC’s and authorized service centers. Cost was the same, received the 2 year warranty card and the green pouch.
