Melbourne: Raising a pint for the Queen! 13 June

Seeing as how we're having a long weekend on account of the Queen's birthday on 8 June, I'd like to propose a Melbourne GTG on the evening of Friday 5 June, what with it being poet's day and all too.

Steve, Gerry and I were throwing some ideas about the other day, and one place that came up was Cumulus Inc: http://www.cumulusinc.com.au

Their wagyu bresaola's killer, and so's their cassoulet. They've also got a magnificent roasted lamb shoulder that's big enough for four people.

Anyway, Cumulus only takes bookings for eight or more people, so let's get the numbers up!

You see, Peter, the problem is that Sydney's just too much of a quiet country town for you guys to keep up with us Melburnians. We party animals have absolutely no problem with getting together on the 5th and the 13th.

I do believe that the Press Club is on the cards at some point, so we could hook up there when you're in town.

Hey James,

How many birthdays does the Queen celebrate in a year?

In NZ, we have Monday the 1st June off and that's been marked down as Queen's birthday!!

I think there are a lot of "Queen's" birthdays celebrated in Sydney.

She has two Birthdays - the official one when she was crowned and the private one when she was born.

Have fun

Actually the 13th works well for me, but I can't do both really, as I do now have another private engagement for the 5th June.

So if the consensus is the 13th June is the way to go then that would be great, especially if we are going to host a blow in from out of town

I'll go with the flow. I'm good for either the 5th or the 13th. I'm easy..................

Now, that comment is not a line opener for 'gimmeeanotherbeer1957........

Okay guys, it looks like the 13th is the way to go, guys. Now, do we go to Cumulus or the Press Club?

My guess is the Press Club is booked out already (usually 6+ weeks in advance).

Question for you Melburnians, Saw a good deal for accommodation on wotif mystery hotel, the description states its a 5 star hotel in the CBD and has just undergone a 40 million dollar renovation. Any ideas as to which hotel it might be?

Pete,

Both hotels you mentioned are great. I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt many times with the wife. It has recently completed some major refurbishments. They spent millions.

The Park Hyatt is sort of up the road a bit, whereas the Grand is sort of more central Melboune.

Just my opinion.

Well, I know they spent a lot on the shopping arcade side (e.g. totally refurbished the LV store and surrounding parts), but did they do anything on the rooms?

Got a great deal at the Grand Hyatt so I'm booked 13th -16th June .
I'm taking my wife on a shopping trip for her 40th (or is in 29th) , should be time for a TRF GTG when the shops shut .
