‘Unique’ 15202?

Not sure what to make of this:

I wonder what they are going to do with it?

Museum? Auction? Donation? There's no way it's for sale.

I like it! It looks like a real fitting end to the 15202, paying tribute to the colour scheme of the 5402. The price will be ridiculous though for the piece unique.

I love that AP chose to use the old font on the dial, but I'm a little disappointed that they didn't bother with a custom rotor for a piece unique.

From IG post:" The unique piece marks the end of an era as a new generation of 39mm Royal Oak arrives in 2022 for the 50th anniversary."
and "The last 15202 reference powered by the automatic movement calibre 2121".

The feeding frenzy for the new 39mm RO will be a thing to behold I wonder if it will retain the Jumbo design with a new movement, or provide a new take on the 39mm RO form factor. If it's the latter, I'll be in (towards the back of the queue).

Be that as it may, I'd like to see anyone here casually decline an opportunity to own this watch, if the opportunity arose.

Next year is going to be a big year for sure and I'm equally sure that AP will have some new toys for us that we haven't yet guessed at. I'm also hoping that the updated 15202 is actually available, certainly it's going to be in huge demand from day 1, but I think that AP will be true to their clients and not make them impossible to get. I've said before that the 15202 doesn't sing to me, but if they make one with a sunburst blue dial then I'm in!

It is Christie’s running this auction - you have to be registering with them for your choice of bidding. Good part is they do not charge buyer’s premimum as this is a charity auction.

I have a feeling that AP may outbid everyone and that this will become a museum piece.

I hope not though. If that happens any future AP pieces that appear in auctions their selling price will be in doubt and wouldn’t inspire confidence. I hope it breaks the record set by the BP. Perhaps +/- 6M USD?

AP have been generous with their donations to these auctions in the past and have let them run their natural course (or so I believe), but surely the very last 15202 iteration in a one off form must warrant them wanting it for the museum.

I take your point about the integrity of the auction sale prices in future, but I'm sure that won't matter too much.

Regardless, a very cool watch and it will be certainly interesting to see what the hammer price is.

Because I believe AP is transparent I hope they don’t set a precedent of outbidding everyone for their own pieces. Like you said, allow the auction to run its natural course. It’s time AP have an icon among the world’s priciest watches currently dominated by Rolex and PP. it is certainly a status befitting of the 15202 before it ends.

Panerai used BMG many, many years ago.

It didn't catch on. They haven't used it beyond a couple of references, as a result.

This is one of the most boring Jumbos I've seen. :(

Since this watch is to be auctioned, everyone here has the opportunity to own this watch. I would bet that almost everyone here casually declines.

"Casually declines" has to be the best quote ever.

This watch will fetch seven figures, there's nothing casual about that. Or, indeed if this only fetches its estimate of 160-320k CHF, there's nothing casual about that, or at least not in my world.
