Am I crazy for liking my Breitling better than my Yachtmaster?

I got the YM as an 'upgrade' to the Breitling but am finding there's just something perfect about the Breitling blue (for me at least).

I'm now feeling like having the YM may be unnecessary, but I know it would be a 'downgrade' of watch quality, but I'm not sure I care. I do think the YM is the perfect fitting modern Rolex for me.

After long consideration.......YES.

If they squeezed more script onto the Breitling dial I may reconsider.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all. It’s just realization of the diminishing returns when it comes to mechanical watches. That’s a good looking Breitling and I bet a reliable timekeeper.

The blue on the Breitling is nice and the YM is classier and finished better, but you gotta go with the one that sings to you. And yeah, how about some dial with all that text!

The Breitling dial is too busy. The YM bezel is too light….black or blue looks better IMO.

I’d take the YM every time between those two……

But if it was up to me, i’d sell both and buy a 126610LN and an Omega AT blue dial….

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! Pass the YM off to a Rolex lover. Have many friends who wear Breitlings and love them, don’t even own a single Rolex or want to.

But that asymmetry on the 14 15 16 versus the 20 21 22 and the flappy paddle looking hands would bother me. The cleaner a dial, the better when it comes to watches. Busy dials on some are okay, but this looks rushed and not well thought out.

This is why you buy what you love and not buy just because it says "Rolex" on the dial.

I love IWC and the brand even though has many fans the hype around IWC is not there - but you know what? Who cares I still love their pilots watches and portuguese line much much more than many Rolex models which I have ZERO interest in.

Wear what you like most, regardless the brand. I don’t see a Breitling as a lesser watch per se

Yes. The YM has a cleaner look in my opinion. It’s not so cluttered.

I don’t understand these questions. You like what you like.

Or is deliberately disfavoring one’s Rolex some sort of new flex?

My back up watch is a Breitling. I love it and love their range and how it constantly evolves. There's a lot to be said for the tradition of Rolex, but it nice to see new designs with colours and materials ever changing.

No. You like what you like. If you like what you think you should like you probably don't like anything.

I like watches. I couldn't imagine having a one make collection unless I only owned one watch.

The answer is no, OP, you’re not crazy. Well, on the general layout perhaps, because that was not Breitling’s finest hour, but on the blue, not at all. It’s just that Rolex is not particularly good at this kind of “standard” navy blue. They make extraordinary blue dials when they go wild, like on the Azzurro Datejust or the Z-Blue Milgauss, but when they just make an ordinary blue dial like on the YM, the baton Datejust or even the WG Daytona, the tone they like to use is just ever so slightly lacking in saturation. As a result, all these watches lack the punch one would like to see in a blue dial. Of course, not every blue dial watch can be a Vacheron Overseas, but even then, the dark blue Rolex makes is just too flat and thus, a bit boring - that is, in my view, as it is always a matter of taste.

Yep.

Too much going on with that bristling dial.

They both are cool watches. Obviously, the yachtmaster has a certain prestige on its own.

How about comparing the new breitling to an ice-blue daytona?

I like my breitling too, it looks great, but its not always just optics that decide whether we want or purchase a certain watch.

Find your own path. Or, go over to the Breitling Forum and ask the same question.

Not crazy at all to like something other than a Rolex. Just because a watch doesn't say "Rolex" on the dial, doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to prefer it! To suggest otherwise is childish in the extreme.

I like Breitling, I still own one (Seawolf white dial) and love it. I used to have a Superocean Heritage blue dial, great watch.

If you find the Breitling perfect, then wear it and enjoy it. Don't just sell the YM yet, keep it in your box, wait a couple of months and reassess later. You might be surprised of how much you missed the YM.

If you sell the YM now but feel like buying it back later, that change of mind will cost you thousands, more in fact than what the Superocean is worth. Take your time before deciding, there's no rush. In fact if you don't need the money right now, time is on your side.

I have a few Breitling in my collection, and I would not part with them. They keep great time and are durable. I don't view them as a lesser watch, just a different style.

As someone who has worked in industrial design, I can safely say the yacht master is much better.

Breitlings are amazing.

Here's mine compared to a Sea-Dweller.
