Retirement, and a nice choice to make ...

I'm retiring from full-time employment to concentrate on running my own business for the last few years of my working life.

To celebrate this moment, I've been talking to my AD about purchasing a special watch. I'm lucky to own a vintage Daytona (6239) from my birth year (1969) and I've been offered the chance to buy a modern Daytona.

The two options on the table are the 116518LN (with any dial apart from the meterite), or the 116505 with sunset dial and diamonds.

For the 116518LN, I really like the diamond set dial with the matt black finish and red accents.

Pictures below. Just wondering what your thoughts are about these two options. Given their price point, I do have to think about longer term financial values too, but in the short term this watch would be worn and enjoyed. Hopefully, either would prove to be a good asset financially.

116518LN

116505

Congratulations and best wishes.

I have never tried an OF bracelet, but I think I would grow tired of it. Gold, otoh, . . . .

Can't help with a $$ prediction. My choice of watches proves that's not one of my strengths.

I like the OF but I’m a bit younger than you. Both great looking watches. Congrats.

What's the point in rewarding yourself after a long career if you have to think about potential value retention?

Then I would say, don't buy one and especially not as a nest egg.

Bracelet and baguettes all the way, stunning watch, I don't care for the OF. Good luck

Definitely not buying as a nest egg. Will be part of a collection and I think it is prudent to look ahead as well as enjoy the moment!

If no legibility issues go with the RG, stunning. Also, IMO at this level spend a little more and go full PM.

If i were making this decision, I’d base it off a couple things….is it part of a bigger collection and how am I wearing it?….casually and often , or as a once in a while special piece?

Can’t comment on which is better for you, but what I can say is don’t be put off with the OF. I was leery of it until I tried one on. Bought one and I absolutely love it. I’m currently waiting for my second OF, a WG Daytona on OF…
Good luck and congratulations on the next chapter!

Both are gorgeous timepieces, it depends which one sings to you louder, go for that one.

I personally preferred full bracelet but I think OF is more comfortable to wear.

If money is no problem, get both of them.

Of the two shown, I'm partial to the full-metal rose gold Daytona. I would imagine that neither option is going to retain value all that well in comparison with other Rolex models

Not a fan of either but if I had to choose between the two it would be the OF Daytona.

Part of the problem for me is the washed out colour in the RG model picture, I’m sure in real-life that colour is darker.

Good luck deciding on which one to choose.

Can’t go wrong with either of these pieces. You might find the oysterflex a bit easier to wear than the pm bracelet over time. I find I tend to be careful / conscious when I’m wearing a pm bracelet myself

the OF wears reaaaaaly comfortably, it really works for someone (like me) who just sweat profusely.

But in this case I really do agree with the thought that the way to truly experience PM is through full bracelet, and that RG/baguettes combo looks amazing to me

Congratulations on reaching such a personal milestone!

Option 2 for sure

I would pick the one that comes with a real bracelet, not some rubber "re-enforced" rip-off.

Besides that, I also think the rose gold one looks incredible.
