thoughts on a GMT

This is one beauty, for sale on this site, that I'm considering purchasing,.
Any issues beyond a bit of lug wear?

I would be looking for camphors in better shape than these. They been polished out near the lug holes.

I haven’t seen too many with really good chamfers unless you go into the big bucks. Some of those are laser city too.

Agreed they are harder to come by as back then polishing was "the thing". I believe it's worth waiting for. I picked up a 20 year old 16570 a while back. Said no to three that ere good enough for most. But so happy with the one I ended up with.

Personally I would wait and keep looking. But I'm not you.

Never ever lat some rando on a watch forum influence a purchase unless they can direct you to a better watch at a better price, they never can.

What about some “rando” who points out some issues with a watch you’re interested in that, because you’re not as experienced, would’ve overlooked and probably regretted?

Seller needs to take better photos as I suspect watch looks better than presented in the photos.

True - but it could be a little better. Get better photos to know for certain.

IN lieu of better photos, this Rando would recommend finding something a little nicer in the case department even if it means chasing down better hands or an insert - the easy things to fix.

Some Randos here give a LOT of information and quality assistance to the community for free, Kingface66 being one of them.

And for a fee - this Rando will direct you to a nicer watch for the same money ; )

I would most definitely do more diligence on this watch. It has a gorgeous red back blue jeans insert. The dial is an MK1 and needs to be cross referenced against the serial#.

For the price, you’ll need to look past some shortcomings, such as the case. Unless you’re willing to pay a) $20k+ for MK5s b) for advice that can be easily researched online for free, this might just fit the bill as a budget MK1. For $14k how can you not take a closer look?

I would like to take a closer look, in person is maybe possible.

Though hi res pictures would be more helpful given my increasing far sightedness

He really needs better photos.

Watch in the shade next to a sunlit window, phone on a stack of books 6-8 inches high. Zoom. Focus. Shoot.

Get better pics first, if you like it bring envelope of cash and go look at it in person.

The guy seems like he is motivated to sell it.

This one might have more polishing.

All comes to preferences with lume patina

Which one you like more ?

It looks like the second one has a bit bigger lugs (extends a little past the end piece). Is that right?

Possibly, but one has end links for a Jubilee, the other for an Oyster.

It probably would be tough to get the hands relumed to match...

I will advice you get to authenticate the watch first, before purchasing. If it is possible?

I'd be less concerned with value as it related to the hands and more about the longevity of the piece. Will that get worse over time? Also, where did that flaking tritium go? It could have made it's way into the movement via the date window. There's a lot to consider.

Agreed, the hands need to be stabilized
I don’t see much tritium gone yet though

On the first watch as well there’s some lume missing from the plots
Is that in a similar situation for movement contamination as the second watch?
