Icon4 Official Service scratched my Submariner

Hi everyone, last week I went for the first time to the official rolex service center because the glidelock on my Sub was stuck due to a loose screw, they fixed it in less than 10 minutes, when the technician handed over the watch he implied that I was the one that caused the issue, which doesn’t make sense since I never removed the last screw on my bracelet, but whatever, I was happy they fixed the issue, today I saw a deep 1cm long scratch on the polished side of my clasp, a scratch that wasn’t there before I went to the service, I’m more surprised than angry, I won’t file a complain or anything since I bought it to wear and there are more scratches to come, but I expected a official technician to be more careful with my watch.

You had it worked on last week but noticed the scratch today? TBH I reckon you have done it since. Surely you would have noticed it before now of the RSC had done it (?)

I went to the service on Friday and noticed the scratch on Monday, of course there's a possibility that I made the scratch but I wore my Speedmaster all weekend, and the scratch is on the left side of the clasp the same side that the loose screw was.

Then that really sucks..

Best to agree condition before and immediately after any work.

Even if you do not plan to return it you absolutely should mail them and let them know that you expected better, especially in light of technician’s attitude.

I had a similar problem with my glidelock. Took it to an AD and they fixed it. It obviously happened on my watch, no pun intended, though I never removed any screws or anything. I don’t think the service rep was wrong in what they said unless it came with a nasty tone. Also you have no way of proving the tech scratched the watch. I’ve noticed scratches that I obviously caused, but I only noticed them later without any idea of when it happened.

Not denying that it could've been my fault but I inspected the claps very closely when the glidelock didn't work and there was no scratch.

I went to the service on Friday and noticed the scratch on Monday, it's also on the left side of the clasp, like the stuck screw.

That would polish out with no discernible loss of metal.

Pretty much guaranteed it happened when they were releasing the glidelock, looks like tool slippage but its really no big deal to fix.

Agreed its not good it happened, but its fixable

Nice to hear it’s fixable! But I’ll probably leave it like that as a reminder to always check condition before and after getting work done on my watch.

Sorry to hear an official technician could make such a mistake. If you can share pics of the scratch.

I’ll post this pic again.

Just a scratch, not a big deal. Anything, and i mean anything you use in life will show signs of wear. Not directed at you OP, but society has gotten so focused on value retention of everyday items that it seems nobody enjoys things they buy and are more concerned about an item losing value. If you’re in the position to spend 10-20-50k on a watch you shouldn’t be too worried about losing a couple grand should you need to sell. Just my $.02

I completely agree with you, here's a quote from my first post:

Oh and I'm taking this Sub to the grave, so not really worried about resell value.

Just try to forget about it.

If it was caused by the technician shame on them. Lesson learned though, inspect the watch before handing it over

I totally agree with you…

I’ve seen you post this pic of yours before though it’s a killer I would have that polished out immediately hats off to you for living with it I would literally rather risk an over polished case!

lol

I wear my watch on my left arm so maybe if it was on the 9 o'clock side of the case I'd notice it more and maybe it'd bother me more?... But what's done is done and I know I can get it fixed eventually if I want

One per cent agree with this logic I am of the view that once it’s got one scratch it needs a polish at some point anyway. I think it’s just the rest of your watch is so perfect still so it stands out more. Do you know how you did it?

Really have no clue. I wore it for a weekend golf out outing in Dallas back in early May. 4 days of golfing, drinking, gambling, late nights and traveling across the country. I wore the watch almost the entire time just so it was never out of site. Noticed it the day after I got back home. No idea how or when it happened that weekend

Who actually caused that scratch with the sub it was somebody who is supposed to be a professional and doesn’t own the watch. It’s not about value Renton it’s about providing a professional service. The service person should sort it out. So dum how we make people bad on here for complaining about a scratch somebody else has made.

The OP has said multiple times he cannot confirm that the scratch was or was not done by the Rolex technician and i clarified in my post that my comments were not directed at the OP, just a general observation I’ve seen with these posts over the years.

Sorry to hear about that! I'd bring it to the attention of the store manager just to see what they'd have to say about it or even better might do about it. It never hurts to try in my opinion.
