Not a single Rolex available

Stopped by Tourneau while visiting Maui. Not a single new Rolex in the cases — SA said they don’t have any new Rolex for sale, only pre owned.

Looked like SA was wearing latest release sub and other SA was on the phone holding a tray with three new subs/sea dweller.

Got the “you’re so fortunate to have the piece on your wrist” response and they recommended I look at Breitling.

LOL - this is how it works

1) New watches come in.
2) Sales person or store removes the stickers
3) Lists the watches as pre-owned and doubles the sale price.

Magic!!! They just doubled or tripled their cash.

I do agree with you fully as it is insulting, although in Breitling's defence, some of their new releases are really nice.

As much as I'd love to hate, this is not true.

One of the ADs I've been a customer has a SDDS Blue for 17K USD. And it's been there for a while.

Great, because the old ones are easily accessible and cheap.

I seriously doubt it works like this.

Why is that insulting? No Rolex’s to sell to you, they’re not putting your name on a list, what do you expect, David Yurman? Michelle?

These AD’s are probably very accustomed to random walk ins, tourists or others just stopping by, fully aware there are no watches in the case and not the slightest chance of picking up a Rolex. Certainly the OP knew what to expect, just some content for his TRF post.

Yeah..... Sure the gap between brands is as you described...
Your analogy is absurd.

I'd like to know more about your "experience and knowledge" with Breitling

Some people should google more about Breitling (and other brands for the matter) history before bringing up the Rolex fanboyism...

But of course, we are a in a Rolex forum along with many people who just started with the Rolex hype... what to expect ?

Not to mention pick one up, look at it and try it on. They make some very nice watches.

If you walked in expecting to buy a hot Rolex and were pointed to a brand they actually had stock for, I suppose you might be disappointed. But insulted? A shop is there to sell you things and they can't sell you what they ain't got (for walk ins).

Then again, if you walked in on spec expecting to buy a hot Rolex, you should buy a fist full of lottery tickets first. You'd stand more chance.

This is generally how sales work.

Breitling is a very reasonable suggestion IMO given Rolex uses their movements and vice versa.

No issues with a SA telling me to look at other brands they carry. I actually had a Vegas SA tell me I had a better chance hitting the mega millions slots than buying a 116500 from them. Now that's a little crazy.
