Submariner + DJ 41 Wimbledon & $$$ for Omega Speedmaster Sedna Gold

So I have worked a deal to trade my 114060 Submariner and Datejust 41 Wimbledon for an Omega Speedmaster in Sedna gold. I would have to come out of pocket an additional $5,500. Call me bored. But I’ve seen the Sedna Gold speedy a few times in person and think it’s stunning, but not sure if I would trade my two SS rolexs to make this happen.

Thoughts

Not a chance. Better trading up to a DD40 or Daytona PM. IMHO

That’s what I’d do. Or even a WG or RG Daytona

The Speedmaster is a beauty, but I believe the retention value of the two Rolexes is better in the long term. Saying that you should do it if you really like the Speedmaster.
If I were you, I buy the Speedmaster in Steel, keep my two Rolexes, and called a day.

It looks amazing. Will be more rare than the two rolexes you have.

If you're set on getting a gold Speedmaster, the Apollo 11 50th anniversary is the one to get IMO. I think it's a special watch.
However, as Roberto mentioned, the new 3861 SS Speedmaster is also a good watch that you can get for not much more than the extra cash required for your trade.

I agreed with this comment.

This gold timepiece is one of the most beautiful Omega.

I would do it. The sedna speedy is a stunner and far more interesting than either rolex. It will also be far rarer.

The Sedna gold is an awesome awesome watch.

If you love it do it! Sometimes Rolex is just way overrated and honestly gets boring.

Without hesitation, I’d do that deal.

The Sedna Speedmaster is magical - it has by far gotten the most wrist time out of all pieces in my collection this Summer.

Ultimately, what makes you happy is the right choice. For me (and I’ve got pm on the radar for next piece) I could not trade 2 Rolex for an Omega.

Um what do you like? Both Rolex’ will retain better value but are arguably boring as hell. And if they aren’t your cup of tea then why keep them? That speedy is pretty unique. I dig it.

Do what makes you happy. Don't be swayed by what others would do.
Here, almost everyone will tell you don't do it.

I like the gold Speedmaster but I would have to research this move. Other than the fit and wear I would have to understand residual values and the difficulty in moving out of the Omega. Also in talking to one of our Trusted Sellers he was telling me that the Omega Gold can not be polished in the typically method. I did not go any deeper with him on it but I would follow up on that also. In the end, I would probably pass based on the fact that it is a niche piece with limited appeal for ownership beyond a limited set of people. I always consider the exit for a watch when I am considering a purchase. I would buy the 3861 on a bracelet and add some NATO's and leather straps. That's right, I did. Good luck.

Submariner + DJ 41 Wimbledon & $$$ for Omega Speedmaster Sedna Gold

This is a no brainer, I’d would take the Sedna speedie, it’s fabulous. I also put the value at about 26k for the Sedna which is also great for a 34.8k watch. This is a good move I’d make.

Sorry to derail the thread... but that white speedy is a beauty! What model is that?

Looks like the Canopus Gold Speedmaster (white gold).

Anyways, the DJ+Sub+5.5K actually does seem to leave a nice discount off of the Sedna Speedmaster, so financially the trade seems sound, without too much risk of losing value if it ever gets resold. However, the question of which you prefer is harder to assess. Personally, I like the Sedna gold Speedmaster more than the SS sub and SS DJ smooth/oyster/Wimbledon.

Most importantly, do what makes YOU happy. Forget hype and resale value, get the watch that makes you smile every time you look at it. I swapped a two tone Daytona for a Lange a few months back (some on here thought I was nuts to give up a Daytona), best move I've made in a LONG time. The Lange is stunning! The fact that the two watches are in the same ballpark in price is crazy to me.

My $0.02 on your situation...
While those are two great Rolex pieces you have, I think the Sedna gold Speedmaster is far a far more interesting piece. If you still have at least one Rolex piece left in your collection, I say go for it!

I would not even trade my DJW straight up for it.

Besides, I don’t see the Speedmaster, or Omegas in general, as gold watches. But hey, it’s your call.

Whatever makes you happy at the end of the day. For me…I would not get rid of two very sought after iconic timepieces that are proven to retain their value and give me great satisfaction each time I wear them. If anything… I would save up and add to my collection. While everyone is offering their 2 cents… only you know what will make you happy.
Good luck.

Nope, don’t make that deal. I really like Omega but the ONLY way you buy that Omega is 2nd hand after it takes its huge hit. Money aside, I am not sure if going all PM that’s the model to do it with.

I’d do this trade in a second. Value aside, two nice but relatively pedestrian Rolexes for a very special Speedy would be right up my alley. Value included, your trading $26-28K in watches and cash for another watch that is currently trading in the low 30k range on the secondary market. While no one can predict the future, recent solid gold Speedmasters have all maintained value well, and the majority trade above MSRP after they are discontinued.
