Incoming: My first Rolex (14060)

Hi everyone,

After posting a few messages, I want to properly introduce my recently-purchased first Rolex: a 1993 Submariner 14060. I got it from a Rolex AD that happens to sell pre-owned models as well.

I had fallen out of love with the Sub when I tried a 124060 on a few months ago, as it didn't quite match the idea that I had of it. It's a beautiful watch for sure, but it almost looked "too perfect". I was then looking at a Yacht-Master 16622, but decided against it because the platinum dial was too similar to my Omega Grey Side of the Moon.

Then the other day we went watch shopping with my wife in anticipation of celebrating the upcoming birth of our first child. We saw that 14060 and asked to try it on, and it was love at the first sight. This was what I expected from a Submariner, even if it doesn't have all of the modern refinements. The employee was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about each of the pieces on display, knowing the exact patina and general condition of all of them.

We spend a good two hours talking with him about Rolex and watches in general, mostly vintage/pre-owned, and we left with this Sub in excellent condition. Hopefully our child will wear it some day! Until then, I will be very happy to do it myself. I'm refraining from wearing it until the birth, which is an exercise in self-control.

These are my first steps in the world of Rolex, with the goal of one day adding a 126710 BLRO... Maybe for child #2

I said I wouldn't wear it until the birth, but I'll make an exception at home at my desk for you ;-) Here it is

Congrats - great looking watch. I picked the 124060 as it was very similar looking in my opinion and wanted more weight on a watch.

Well chosen! You have a great, timeless, tough-as-nails classic no-date Rolex! My slightly younger 1996 14060 (my first and only Rolex) says "hello"

Thank you! Congrats on your 124060, you most certainly have the better clasp

I like your 2-line dial better…classic and clean!

Very cool and double Congrats! I also bought my first Submariner (14060M) a month after my son was born. It’s an awesome feeling to be able to do that for yourself and your child!

P.S. Here’s my story and my first post if you are interested.

I wore it everyday for a little over 8 years until I got my 124060 in June. I still wear it every now and then but it is due for a service and I haven’t found where I want to send it yet. We are all doing well, thank you!

Here is the thread about my new one. This one will be going to my other son.

That 5-digit Submariner is the icon of Rolex imo. Congrats! It's worthy of being passed on to your son - or daughter - but only when you're ready, many, many years from now. Love the no-date.

Thanks! That’s the plan, I’ll create a lot of memories with it before I pass it down :-)

Fantastic find, huge congrats. It's a great watch! I acquired one about 5 years ago from a seller on this forum, and I couldn't be happier with it. I absolutely love the low-bling, under-the-radar, utility-focused nature of this watch. Hope you thoroughly enjoy your new 5-digit Non-Date Sub, and I hope it brings you much watch-wearing satisfaction!

Many thanks to all of you guys, I’m over the moon with this watch and can’t wait to wear it after the birth of our child. A special and timeless piece for a very special occasion.
By the way, TRFers rock! You all have such amazing collections and seem genuinely happy to share my excitement over this first piece - and the occasion of course.
