Your inscription will not be meaningful to anyone else and hence it might hurt re-sale a little. But if you are engraving it, then it also sounds like you have bought it keep for the long term

I've got a few engraved watches. Nice for pieces you'll keep and maybe hand on..

Ye i’m thinking something as a memorial to my father in law who passed two weeks ago, the watch will be my sons one day so a nice reminder of his grandad, any ideas of suitable inscriptions thanks everyone

Go for it! Anyway the caseback can be replaced in the future if the need comes

I just got my ‘21 Explorer complimentary engraved by RSC. Not my intention but they confirmed that if the need should arise they’d exchange the case back (they’d keep the engraved caseback) for a small-ish fee. So really no risk at all. Furthermore, the engraving could easily be polished out. The engraving looks wonderful by the way and amazing customer experience at the Toronto RSC.

My advice would be to have it done from the official AD. They know very well how to do the engraving in a manner that if you need in the future to sell the piece, it will be easy to restore the original conditions of the caseback. I do it on all my pieces.

according to rolex terms of warranty, your warrany will be void by doing engraving on the caseback.

Go for it! watches are for memories not for "future resell value"...my Rolexes are the only ones that I can engrave on the back because of the plain case back and I love that...

With any engraving, pick what you want, then run it by two other people to look for any errors or things that look weird. My reason for this is that the people doing the engraving aren’t looking out for errors, or things that seem out of place.

That being said personalized gifts like this are absolutely awesome to receive since the giver actually put more thought into it than simply swiping a credit card.

I think case back engravings are pointless. It’s the watch that means something to the person.

Go laser engraving as it can come from a photo.

Here’s my Minus4Plus6.com logo on a link of
my 126600 and the caseback of my 116600.

I think chapter ring style engravings are great. Much more oem looking than just lines of text put right in the center.
