Help please…. “APH dial on a Daytona-116520”
Hey guys
Last night I was watching an episode of CRM jewelers on YouTube. They were showing an example of a special “APH dial” on the 116520 Daytona produced from 2011-2014. I have a Daytona that I purchased in 2014. To my pleasant surprise, my watch has the APH error dial. I know that this was an error which Rolex corrected and these demand a premium but that’s all I really know about them. I would greatly appreciate any insight/information about this watch. Thank you |

Yeah, not much reward for the APH dial. Sellers will try and pump the price with it though.
I guess this “error” was in production for too long to get much premium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Tomorrow a dealer will start claiming water damaged/dust infiltrated watches as PIECE UNIQUE due to the unique pattern on dials caused by water/dust. Ohh yeah it’s already happening with so-called Patina on dials.

Thanks guys. Either way it isn’t for sale. I bought 2014, still fully stickered, never been worn, full set. Will just go back in the safe. Will give it to my son when he graduates.

My only input on this thread would be that unless you're keeping it pristine to sell on? You should take the stickers off and enjoy the wear. Your son may value a piece with sentimental attachment of being on your wrist, rather than a piece he may not even like (or wear as they are a bit small on wrist!)... also, with stickers in place he may just want to sell it!

Only dealers and owners of aph dials talk about how special and rare these are. Most other don't pay much attention to this, not a big deal

Is it really an error dial if Rolex let it happen for 4-5 years???? I don’t think so

“All you really know” about the dial and premium seems like it may be inaccurate? Good news is you can still enjoy a great watch

The money is on APH 2015-2016 due to the Chromalight dial as well.

It’s a made up construct by collectors and speculators to build hype. Same with the so called mark 1,2, 3, 87 1/16th dials and bezels out there. Don’t let the face scarcity fool you. Rolex makes tons of watches over many decades and there are subtle variations as every massed produced object has. I have some jeans same size and wear quite differently. The reality is it’s not an error and was made for many years it was just a subtlety in the manufacturing process. Speculators do what speculators do and make up a construct that this APH is significant. Anything can be significant or not depending on the meaning one places on it. I owned the so called APH Daytona for many years and only noticed it when folks here started throwing that concept around. Funny how that works.

Well said. LOL… starry sky, Milky Way, stardust all equal one thing, a damaged dial. If collectors like that, more power to them. But those are marketing gimmicks that equal one, simple fact. OP, you have a cool piece. Congrats!
