Always take care of your bartender

We spent the weekend in Miami. We decided to check out one of the high end steak houses in the area. We couldn't get reservations but figured what the heck stop by and maybe they'll have an
opening. Unfortunately it was an 1.5 - 2 hours wait time. So we figured we'd have a few drinks at the bar while we wait.

My rule of thumb when ordering drinks is you always tip the bartender heavy especially the first round and they'll take care of you. Sure enough before we finished our first round, our second round was already on the way.

While having our second drink my wife notices that one of the other bartenders had on batgirl. So him and I strike up a conversation about watches and how each of us got ours. Soon after all the bartenders joined in on the conversation as they were all into watches as well. Each sharing stories. During the conversation the bartender asked us if we were having dinner and we told them we were waiting for a table and that it might take a bit.

He looked at us and said don't worry about it, called over one of the waitresses and immediately they cleared a table and got us seated. So instead of a 2 hour wait it turned into having some great conversations with some fellow watch enthusiast and a short wait for a table.

On a side note this was my first time in Miami. During my weekend stay I saw 2 batgirls, 1 batman, a yatchmaster II and a blinged out day date. This is more than I've ever seen in the wild while living in Seattle.

I lived in Miami for 15 years and it's where I started on my Rolex journey. There's a lot of disposable income and decent bartenders and servers pull in six-figures...and spend it!

Nice story. Love how watches can start great conversations between 2 strangers. Can't think of many other things that can do that.

Trying to think of a female equivalent ... was thinking maybe handbags? I don't want to generalize, but for some reason I can't see two women, standing beside each other somewhere suddenly striking up a conversation about their lovely handbags, but I can totally imagine two guys, in the same scenario, doing it about their watches.

Werd. I was Vegas last month and ate out at "Water Grill". One of the servers (young bloke) was sporting the new 41mm sub. Saw another one wearing a older speedy so appears in the fine dining world, luxury watches are definitely are a thing!

Nice. You will probably see more nice watches per capita in Miami than most places

Batgirl might be the absolute dumbest name ever. I really just don’t get it at all the need to give a nickname to a watch. Little boys playing little games.

While I don't disagree... nicknames do help describe each model. I bet no one here had any doubt which watch I was talking about but if I used model numbers I'm sure there will be folks that would need to look it up.

So how many mixed drinks did you have to buy before the bartender finally sold you the straight whiskey you actually wanted in the first place ?
