What's wrong with the white dial Datejust 41?

Some people were disappointed when Rolex discontinued the white dial OP39 and didn't introduce a white dial OP41.

But, what about the white dial stainless steel Datejust 41? Available with lumed stick hour markers, smooth bezel, and oyster bracelet for a very reasonable $7,650.

Or you can dress it up by choosing roman numerals, jubilee bracelet, and/or white gold fluted bezel -- for under $10,000. Still a bargain.

So, is the DJ41 a reasonable option for those who really wish the OP39/41 was available with a white dial? Or is the white dial OP a special offering with no substitute?

Not a thing is wrong with it. It's a great looking watch. And 50 years from now, it will still be a great looking watch.

The ONLY thing wrong with it is that pictures don't capture its true beauty.

I didn't give the DJ41 / white dial any thoughts whatsoever, until I actually saw one at the AD - similar to the Hulk. Once I saw it, knew I had to have it.

The white stick / white dial combo is super clean, and I like how different it is from the rest of my collection.

Nothing wrong with it, but it's not a simple difference. The texture of the OP39 was out of this world. The texture of the DJ41 is nice, but - not even close in aesthetics to some of us.

It's impossible to tell in internet pics, but in the metal there is a big difference.

That is a handsome watch in white! It also looks good in bright blue and Azzurro blue.

I tried to get the white OP39 and landed up with the exact watch in the picture above, I liked it a lot, but always had the envious eye on the blue stick dial/fluted/jubilee version. So when the chance came up and my AD told me they had one on the way, I traded my white one for the blue one and I am happy I did. I do miss having a white dial watch in my collection though, maybe one day..

It is a beautiful watch. However, the reason I originally bought a white dial OP39 (114300) is because it did not have a date. I am not a fan of the cyclops but it is growing on me. I can sometimes see myself buying this DJ.

However, I truly do think the white dial OP has no substitute.

Yes, this combo with the smooth bezel and jubilee makes the DJ41 something you can wear with shorts or a suit. Not to mention how versitile the white dial is. Mine has complimented blue, gray, tan, and black outfits very nicely.

I won the blue dial and rhodium dial 41mm versions and saw a guy wearing the white dial a few months ago, I instantly wanted one.
It really seems to pop in a crisp understated way

I prefer the OP. I think 39mm is the perfect size and prefer the brushed oyster bracelet and lack of cyclops. The OP is pure simplicity — in a good way.

OP and DJ in white both look great. I have a DJ2 in blue, no slouch.

I prefer the jubilee, but it is the best watch Rolex makes.

Nothing wrong, a great looking watch! But many differences in the DJ vs the OP39. Both have their pros & cons IMO

I haven’t seen this configuration before, and I love it! I wondered what looked different, and looked at the Rolex website. The bezel on the DJ41 is described as ‘smooth’, while on the DJ36 it’s ‘domed’.

Hadn’t picked up on this before, and it makes the 41 much more appealing to me, thanks for sharing!

No. Totally different vibe due to polished vs not. I’m not a white dial guy but I’d personally chose the OP all day.

I chose this exact configuration as my first Rolex (although mine is a Datejust II). I love its simplicity and versatility.

The polished domed bezel vs. the flat (smooth) bezel does seem to create a different personality. I wonder if those are swappable (OP41>DJ41).

If u have dark/tan skin, white dials come out really reall well against the skin. Here's my white smp on my tanned hand.

Nothing wrong with that DJ at all. It's a very handsome configuration, from the 41 mm depicted here all the way down to the now d/c'd 34 mm Date version. I like it.

Among DJs it probably doesn't get as much love because of the current popularity of other configurations (blue dial, Wimbledon, fluted bezel/jubilee, etc). It is a great choice nonetheless. Perhaps an alternative to the white OP, but I like to think of it as standing on it own merits -- a great, versatile, under-the-radar DJ.

I can't believe I missed tying on this reference! Stunning indeed.
Man, you wear it too loose it almost looks like slipping out of your hand to my eyes. Bring it above your wrist bone please :-))
