Explorer 1655 check

Looking for feedback on this 1655. It’s a 5m serial dating it to 78. The bracelet has a VC code dating to 82. I don’t know nearly enough on these and comparing pics online gets me into trouble.

Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

Your 1655 looks original (at least externally). I also have a 1655 with a 5.35 million serial number. My 1655 has been a safe queen most of it's life (my bad).

Beautiful! That fat font bezel really has a great look. Appears like mine has been changed to something newer.

Movement is good. 1570

I guess my main concern on mine is whether the dial has been changed or not. I’ll have to wait for someone with better eyes than me.

Looks like a Mark 4 dial which should be in the 5.5 - 6.5m serial range. The bezel looks to be a Mark 3, based on the "1" in the "18", but it is hard to tell in the pictures. You can tell the difference in the bezels based on the "1"s. Here is link that may be helpful.

Watch appears correct, and the VC code is for 1978, not '82.

You can double-check dial/bezel details on this handy-dandy comparison chart:

Looked again it’s the VF code, not VC. Then the bracelet code 78360.

OK, then VF would mean 1981 according to many lists.
