Tried on some stuff today
I got a friend into watches and he decided to get on the list for a Datejust. He's looking for a silver or Wimbledon dial in steel. We're playing the how long will he wait game. I'm guessing 1 year myself.
I went on the trip and asked the SA if I could see some stock in the back. She said do you want to see full precious metal or professional series and I said, Yes. She came back with a 36mm DayDate diamonds and a Pepsi. I was happy to be able to see these pieces because I never get to see anything, ever. 36mm Daydate was too small on my 7.5 inch wrist. The weight was impressive and I liked the bracelet. But I had been on the fence whether I could rock a 36 or not. Answer was no, too small. Pepsi was a surprise. It was much smaller in person than I had expected. Bezel looked a little toyish and overall it didn't feel great. The case wasn't as elegantly designed as the OP41, it was thicker, the bezel was too big, the dial too small. The jubilee bracelet was nice. My first impression was wow this seems kinda toyish, and wow this is massively over rated. Removed myself from the Pepsi list. I'm still interested in the Batgirl. SA said they get lots of professional series and it's just infinite demand that's the issue. Overall fun day and really changed my opinion on pieces. It goes to show you can't judge things by the internet. I think I'd be a big fan of exhibition models to try on everything. She said the blue dial Milgauss I'm interested in is one of the rarest allocations. Really reaffirmed my appreciation of the OP41. The new case, the bracelet, the dial, everything was done..better. I think we're only going to see better things from Rolex in the future. Hopefully a new GMT Master II with root beer, coke and other colors in the modern sizes. Of course my ideal would be an updated Milgauss while retaining the green crystal and blue dial but I think that's a long shot. She also said they get gifts all the time and it doesn't help at all. Basically don't be a tool and you'll get whatever you want if you wait. |

I’ve often wondered about some of the stories ADs could tell about this generation of Rolex buyers. Gotta be good content!

Yeah, I managed to get a Z-Blue Milgauss earlier this year and both the SA said that they almost never see them, and the manager said that she's never actually seen one in person. So I managed to really luck out. One of the other ADs I was talking with said they hadn't seen one in well over a year and even when they were getting them regularly it was maybe 1-2 per year. Not a lot of demand, but also not a lot of production.

I thought it was interesting that they get tons and tons of GMTs and Daytonas even though they command the highest 2ndary market prices. They are really very common apparently.
It's unlikely I'll be able to get a Milgauss but we'll see.. Maybe they will continue it for another year, or replace it with a new one. If they just discontinue with no replacement I'll just be SOL I reckon and look at other things. I suspect we will see a new GMT Master II case design sooner rather than later, same with Daytona. |

Same AD from which you purchased your OP41? Were you wearing it?

Yea it's the same AD. I only work through 1 AD and it's a few hours away from me. I had my OP on and was able to compare side by side. Out of the 3, I greatly preferred the OP41 in many ways. I think 2ndary market bias plays into most people's minds when they decide on what they like or not but not myself. I seem to be immune to hype for whatever reason.

Surprised to hear that zblue is on the harder to acquire spectrum. I absolutely love the dial. It’s the one watch I’m starting to get FOMO. I hope you get one soon
I had the same sentiments re BLRO. Pics here always make it look great. But in person I didn’t think it looked quite like I expected it to on my wrist. Hidden stock in the back? This can’t be true. |

If you aren’t impressed with the Pepsi, why do you still think the Batgirl will be better? It’s just different colors.

Sounds like you much prefer the looks of the Classic series watches, in which case you've got some truly superb watches to choose from - subject to availability.
40mm is the classic GMT Master size and has a long heritage. I wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration was 41mm but the current generation is not all that long in the tooth. Probably many more years to go with the current size. |

It felt like the red portion of the bezel of the Pepsi and red GMT hand were sort of extra toyish. They looked purple to me too. It just didn't look right.
The Batgirl looks a little more low key and to the point I suppose. I like the blue GMT hand. I think they will increase the GMT to the modern DD/DJ/OP case size and design with more curves and better proportions. |

Glad you had a chance to interact with some watches OP. That’s the only way to really know what sings to you.

If I were told they all cost and were worth the same and equal rarity etc. I'd probably say the DJ41 and OP41 are the best watches in the entire collection. The case, bracelet, bezels, clasps all just seem to be the best. I'd concede the Submariner family has a better Triplock system though.
I was surprised the GMT has flat sided cast with less finishing than the OP41. I also really like the full brushed look of the OP41. If they'd just combine the Milgauss GV crystal and Zblue dial with the OP41 case, and the dJ41 bracelet.. That would be the ultimate ultimate. Maybe have PM versions as well. I didn't really like the hidden clasp of the Daydate either. The crown protruding off the clasp seemed like a hazard and something I'd always notice while resting my wrist on a desk or something. Like a princess and the pea. Flat smooth clasp exterior seems to make the most sense. |

Bump from the dead.
Made the long trek to my AD. My friend got his first Rolex today, a DJ. I got to try on lots of things I had not seen before. I love the exhibition models! Everything was much smaller in person. Everything wore nicely too. Wasn't a huge fan of the Oysterflex at first. I'm sure it's fine but wasn't for me. Tried a DD, Daytona, Sub, Milgauss, and Skydweller. Likes all of them. The Milgauss really stood out from the group. Best dial Rolex has ever made. Hoping to pick up one of those someday. Daytona wore well too. Didn't care for Everose in person nor chocolate dials. Very small on my wrist. Skydweller felt fine too. Overall really enjoyed the Milgauss dial, Skydweller 22mm jubilee bracelet, and the Sub/Daytona weren't as bulky as I was expecting and felt just fine. If somehow they could combine the Milgauss crystal and dial with a new slim case and a 21/22mm jubilee bracelet they'd have an all-time winner for me. Asked lots of questions about allocations and deliveries and was all the same as I've said before. They even got a Platona recently. Looking forward to the new releases! |

Did you mean the chocolate dial looked small and that's why you did not like it?
