116713LN dial replacement?

Hi all,

I have GMT II ( 2006, Z serial) that is starting to have weak lumes even after a charge. My local RSC just did a service on this watch and had I noticed this prior to the service, I would’ve had them replace the dial and hands.

What are everyone’s thoughts regarding replacing the dial and hands? Also, anyone have an idea about replacement costs? Not intending to sell the watch so I don’t really care about resale value. Thanks!

The greenish luminova on your GMT is less bright than blueish chromalight found on newer Rolex watches.
Perhaps you compared both, because my luminova watches of similar age doesn’t seem to have faded.
The luminova on Rolex has never been that good to begin with

If you need to read a watch in the dark, I'd pick up a cheap(er) second watch that illuminates the dial with a battery powered light. I've replaced hands on a 16800 a couple of times because of the poor illumination quality that Rolex get's away with.

Well in general the lume of Rolex is not as good as many other brands, but the lume surface area on the hands and hour plots are quite small. So the greater the lume surface area the greater the lume will seem. Luminover has been around from the very late 1990s and have not seen any reports on losing its glow like the old Tritium on older Rolex dials.

Thanks all for the insight! I wear a Breitling day to day and was surprised to see my gmt lumes really struggling. Never had lume issues with my Breitlings ( or maybe I haven’t noticed!) 🍻

That doesn't sound very smart. If you want a modern watch with new lume, then I would just buy one.
