Same same but different

I've seen some chatter on IG about a new 20.01 which looks very nice, but I can't see any info on their site - except that it is featured in their special cave. Maybe a relaunch for existing customers?

Looks nice. Do not really want to be involved in the mess to get one. Rather hit select on a Longines sector dial or tuxedo.

Love Longines Tux dial!

I enjoy Ming's aesthetics, so will try once again....

Not sure how I feel about the date window, looks a bit too recessed into the dial

They made 8 of the 20.01. They did issue a new mosaic a few months ago. It sold out and was between $14-15k. https://ming.watch/blogs/journal/min...ch-information

I really don’t know what to think about this one…and that usually means I’m trying too hard to like it.

I have a 27.02 coming in the next few weeks and I think this new 37.05 shares too many similarities to that, so I’ll probably sit on the sidelines. Also, the pattern of the 37.05 dial is giving me Cellini vibes and that’s personally not a hit for me.

That said, I can see the appeal and for those that haven’t dived into Ming it’s probably worth a shot.

Date window ruins it. Not interested.

I like it, but I don’t love it and since I have a 17.09 and a 20.01 on the way, I think I’ll sit tight.

I got a sense they’re going to release another version of their mosaic dial (they allude to it in a recent blog post), so I think I’ll wait for that one!

Pass.

For that price, there are other independent micro-brands out there who use better movements. In fact, there are some with in-house COSC movements.

Example that I came across today (never heard of them before):

I think the mosaic that they were hinting at was the 20.01, unless I missed something else?

If you buy watches just for the movement, you can get a Christopher Ward with a COSC movement for around $1000. No need to spend Norqain money

How is the secondary market for Ming? Ie do they tend to retain and or appreciate in value

They appreciate but if you flip and Ming finds out you are banned for life from future purchases. E.g. you flip and the new owner sends it to Ming to fix something - you are done with Ming because they check the serial.

That’s probably one of the reasons they appreciate. Not many on the secondary market.

That's true! I forgot that CWard does in-house COSC movements, too.

Their payment processor really sucks. I had two of my cards declined, then a personal card decline, and then my GFs card decline.

I've been intrigued by the brand and thought about preordering, but having to wait nearly a year is just not worth it for me at this point so decided to pass.

Yes my bad, I meant I have a 20.11 on order - the 20.01 Series 2 has the new mosaic pattern (special projects cave).

I thought the anti flipping policy was that you just can’t sell within 2 weeks of getting it?

You are actually better off clearing the fraud alert and using the same card twice. They are an Asian company transacting in CHF, so it’s obviously going to look like a pretty suspicious transaction to a bank, unless you are normally traveling in Asia or paying for things in Swiss francs. The other thing is to tell your bank ahead of time to drop the fraud protection for a couple hours.

I haven’t seen the policy in writing, so if that’s it, that’s less restrictive than I thought. But I have heard of people being banned…

Ditto, and think this is a sign to avoid Ming for the time being. i consider it a sign of sorts. If i have to try TOO HARD to get something, generally it's not worth the effort / not meant to be.

I'm not sure why it is Ming's fault? Other than the fact that they are located where they are and ask for payment in CHF. To the extent folks have issues, it is because they didn't notify their bank and are trying to process transactions that are highly unusual for their typical activity. Ming warns people to call their bank and pre-clear the transaction from a fraud standpoint.

Ming could use a US-based payment processor, but (a) I am sure that would raise their expenses/taxes; (b) only helps people in the US--they are selling globally.

I run eCommerce heavy companies much larger than Ming, two with the same "hype" aspect behind them. It's definitely solvable by working with someone like Bolt or Fast. My guess is that he's just new to eCommerce/not accustomed to working closely with good payment processors.

Fair enough, just color me frustrated as it's my third try at their products. Was soooo happy it went through this time. Then payment fail

It's ok, an MB&F Sherman is arriving next week, a 42mm bronzo a week or so layer. Maybe next time Ming? Darn, loved the lume and moon phase.

Kari has an open order from me, whatever brilliance he creates for his new company
