Question about being put on waitlist for DSSD

Made an inquiry at two separate ADs to purchase DSSD 126660 in either Black dial or James Cameron edition dial. Was able to be put my contact info on both lists and they will contact me as they say when they get one.

My question is how desirable is a DSSD? I ask this to understand how long I might be on the waitlist. I know if I went in to get a Submariner or other hot Rolex model, I might be looking at a really really long wait time. For this reason, I was hoping the DSSD might be less desirable and quicker to get.

If my thinking is wrong, let me know as well. I could also understand Rolex might produce less for the ones that do not sell that well and be just as long to wait for as a Submariner. And focus more resources on making more of the hot sellers.

The Two ADs I did make an inquiry at are are probably the two most popular Rolex Dealers as per google reviews in Northern Virginia area if that helps any.

every AD and city is different but i can't imagine the dssd is as desirable as other popular steel models due to its size. easiest way to tell how desirable a model is to look at how much of a premium it sells for on the grey market. if it's near double msrp you'll be waiting a year or more

I don't think the black dial DSSD is difficult to get, but maybe things have changed for that one too. The JC dial is way harder to get.

I don't think it's a particularly hot model. The DSSD is just so damn big and heavy, a lot of people can't pull it off.

The black dial DSSD is probably one of the least in demand Professional models, more demand for the JC’s. Although it was over a year ago, my AD had one in the case for sale, saying they didn’t have anyone waiting for one, it lasted a day.
I think you’ll get one within six months, just make sure it’s what you want not just “any Rolex.”

Lot of factors here. Have you purchased anything from either one of these ADs before? If not expect a good wait. If you have history then less of a wait. The black dial is probably easier to get considering they make fewer of the JC dial. If you’re looking for an accurate estimate on wait time no one here can tell you that. Just expect it won’t be quick and be patient unless you want to pay the premium on the secondary market. Good luck on your journey!

The black dial was in the cases earlier this year around May. So I doubt you'll have much of a problem.

The real question is why did you ask for 2 different watches? Go with the one you like the most.

My local AD had a pre-owned black dial DSSD in the display case about a month ago for $15K. It lasted about two weeks. A week or so ago I saw one on DavidSW for about $13K.

Wow, was the one at DavidSW new or a pre-owned older model? MSRP right now for the black dial is $12,600 and MSRP for the JC dial is $12,900. That's a great price if it's new and with no sales tax, you actually get it cheaper than going brand new at the AD.

Appreciate the responses here greatly. Was trying to get a idea of how hot this watch was. Based on responses, seems like there other a lot of other models people might consider before DSSD.

Someone asked why I put down interest for Black dial and James Cameron. I simply did that to increase my chances of getting one quick. So if one were to come in quick, then I would go for that. I really like both dials. I could see myself wearing both and enjoying them greatly. From the sounds of it, the James Cameron might be harder to get. So, the black dial might be the one I end up with.

Also, I have no purchase history with any of these ADs. Let’s see how long this takes.
