White Gold Day Date Conundrum

Would appreciate feedback on this.

Ordered 40 mm white gold day date blue face. Will take a year, at least.

Got a call from AD ( btw know them well, done lots of business, kids went to school together, etc.) and they had 40 mm white gold with olive face. Suggested I come in to take a look. Not grooving on that combination.

Had a 2019, full kit, barely worn 40 mm day date blue face in preowned section. Selling for $49k, going market.

New MSRP (as of today) $39k, BUT they tell me prices going up effective January 1, they are thinking maybe 3.5% or so.

So they questions is: take the combination I want now, pay the $49k, or wait and pay the higher MSRP when my watch is available? The delta between market and MSRP obviously narrows as 2022 price goes up (heck might not be 2023 before I get my new one). Not huge dollars in the whole scheme of things but would appreciate feedback.

The pre owned may be gone (was there at 11:30 est today).

Thanks to all and best for the holiday season!

Tough choice….
But based on your relationship I would hold out and wait for the new one that you want. Nothing like knowing you are the 1st and only person to put that PM on your wrist.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Blue is a stunning dial but then again so is the olive dial.

Personally I think olive dial pairs better with more outfits than the blue does.

I’d go for the olive and come service if you really wish then request for a dial change.

I’d imagine that it would be a cheaper route to buy now and change dial later than pay the impending price increase of the day date

I think the white gold and olive dial is winner, but never get something that you are on the fence about to be able to "get something." I have seen many a watch turn to disappointment because instead of thinking "this is it" when looking at your wrist, you think of "what if..."

Olive dial with WG is by far the best color combo of them all, with out hesitation I would drive straight there and buy it now!!

I would take WG olive dial brand new now. Olive dial is the most popular now but you have to like it otherwise wait for blue dial, it should come in within 6 months.

White Gold Day Date Conundrum

I’ll happily pay the 3.5% premium for you to send it my way if it doesn’t work out lol

In all seriousness I would wait for a new blue if that’s what you want. That olive trades for a not insignificant premium to blue though and you could easily swap it with any dealer.

msrp + tax (+ 2022 increase) makes it a very small premium. if you really don't like the olive i would just go grey. if you're still open to the olive then get it and wear it for a few weeks and flip it for the blue one if you're still not vibing with it. either way you'll pay the same premium. flipping might even end up cheaper

Appreciate all the feedback. Lotta love for the olive here but just didnt vibe for me.

Maybe ill buy it, wear it a bit and then contact one of you olive guys for a good deal!

I know the olive is rare, as far as I know.

All the best for the holidays!

I really like both the blue and the olive dials. If they were both in front of me and I could only pick one, I'd have a real problem making a choice! Needless to say, I'd personally go for the olive. However, if it doesn't strike you, I'd say pass and wait for the one you really want.

Just out of curiosity? Did you like the olive at all? Or, did it totally not "sing" to you, even a little bit? If you could see yourself wearing it and the wallet allows, I'd say buy it, wear it until your blue comes along. It may even grow on you over time? If not, when your blue one comes in, you can trade it in to your AD or resell on your own. Either way, you won't lose, and in fact might make some money? Judging by the responses so far on this thread alone, you can see that there is a strong demand for the olive! Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Maybe it was the light in the store but olive just didnt "sing" to me as you say.

I think blue and white gold just a more traditional, dressy combo. I think in general, I would wear this watch is a suit/coat/formal environment.

The olive dial is more of a faded green vs the green on lets say a Submariner Hulk. The olive is definitely not for everybody. In this case if the watch didn't "sing" to you, and you really couldn't see yourself wearing it at all, I think the right decision is to pass. Buying a luxury watch that you're going to wear is an emotional thing, and it has to feel right imo. You have to feel good about wearing it!

So, if you wouldn't wear it at all....for investment or to making some money on it down the road? I don't know what you do for a living, but I could take $40K+ and probably make more money elsewhere in say a year's time. This particular model of watch might not be the best flipper, but I honestly haven't followed the trend on this reference. Also, if you flipped it, you might get blacklisted at your AD?

I say let it go, let the next person on the AD's list buy it and make their Christmas merry! Or, make someone else's day here on this thread, and give the allocation to another TRFer? I would love that to be me, but unfortunately my pockets aren't deep enough for that beauty!

I think the olive will wear out and the blue will stay popular for a long time. Green of any color seems to be in style with Rolex right now. You can never go wrong with blue.

Why not ask AD whether they’d sell you olive today and let you trade off/when blue comes in? Everyone will win and worst case you pay to have dial swapped by RSC.
