Is this watch worth $46k?

Visited my AD today and although I have some history (sub date and ~$25k in wife’s jewelry)… I’m getting the feeling that I’m not going to get this watch. This is literally the only watch I want from the catalog. I will be more than happy having my sub as a daily and this one for more special occasions.

For those that own an oysterflex Daytona… would you pay $46 for it? Do you guys think its worth the current gray price? I’m contemplating going gray as I don’t see an end to this madness.

I’m going to another AD tomorrow in Los Angeles that I have an OK relationship with to see if there’s hope but I’m not holding my breath.

I apologize for the rant.

Both watches are amazing to me. I have wondered the same. Thin down the collection and go to fewer but stronger pieces.

Unfortunately intrinsic value no longer means anything in this market and prices are completely out of touch with reality. Rolex watches are treated as investments, while only a few years back those same watches were being sold at a discount at ADs. Social media hype, coupled with piles of excess cash have pushed certain luxury goods (Rolex, Patek, Hermès etc.) into the stratosphere and who knows how long this situation will last.

A high price point for a PM Rolex on a rubber strap.

I have also noticed that the price difference between similar PM bracelet and PM rubber strap models doesn’t relate to the price of the PM bracelet.

I don’t know where these prices are going?.

It might be for someone, but I don’t think so for your intended use case.

IMHO, a gold sports watch is not a special occasion watch.

Is this watch worth $46k?

These are special watches with tremendous usefulness, mesmerizing looks and suitability for nearly every setting and occasion.

Worth it? Not if you’re an old codger who thinks oil isn’t worth more than 19 cents a gallon and hamburgers were 25 cents. Meaning if you think it should be worth whatever it was worth back in the day, then no.

But after the amount of real world inflation we’ve had, to ‘only’ pay 10-15k more than list from year ago doesn’t seem so bad. If it’s literally the only reference you want from th3 catalog, save the headache. Just go gray and find a way to earn the 15k some other way. Enjoy life, enjoy the watch now rather than the opportunity cost of dream about the watch from an AD.

I remember just a year or 1.5 years ago. My AD had pretty much every oyster flex starting at like 28 I think? Sucks

This has been my issue with OF pricing from day one. The margin to full gold is nominal at this level.

Personally I love the Daytona on OF, spectacular reference but I would never pay 50 for a rubber strapped Rolex, PM or not.

It feels good wearing this one at retail and I never thought it would happen. EVER. It’s not the exact model I wanted but I really love it.

If I wanted it I could justify retail list price and not 1 penny more

15% off MSRP in 2019. Back when gas was $2 and I walked up hill both ways in 10 ft of snow to get to the AD.

There are better buys like a 16528 or if it must be new the 126618LB. But if you must just grab one. Who cares anymore…money doesn’t seem to be worth a damn.

All depends how much you desire something and if the the joy it gives you outweighs the price you paid for it. Only you can answer that and sometimes it's a very difficult answer to struggle with.

Then again, I'm am an msrp person and even that's a struggle to cope with. But hey, if you are even lucky to get a grey at 46k I think there is still money on top if you need to sell it.

I totally think it’s worth this money. I certainly think it’s worth more than a SS anything that goes for this or more. Gold watches in past years were always two or more times SS…

Sooo I agree this is my absolute grail. However, I would not pay grey prices for any watch these days. YMMV. On other hand, if you got the coin and want it, why not?

I don’t look at watches as investments, so it’s much easier to determine their worth.

If I love it, want it, plan to enjoy it, and can afford it, then it’s worth it.

To me, Rolex is a bracelet watch and I cant get past that. I would certainly use the rubber strap as a secondary strap but would never pay this high $$$ on a Rolex without a metal bracelet. I love the look of the Daytona on rubber but it’s price point is too high for a rubber strap. Rolex makes the best bracelets in the industry.
