A trade worth doing?

I've been offered the opportunity to trade my Omega Aqua Terra and Speedmaster 3861 (both purchased new within the last 12 months) for a Submariner 16610 from 2004 in very good condition with box and papers. The other watch is my collection is an Explorer 124270 (which has easily taken over the AT as my daily).

Is this a good trade to do both from a financial and collection perspective? The other option I'd consider is to sell my AT and by a dress watch - perhaps a Grand Seiko sbgw231.

Only you can decide if it's worth it.

Me personally, nope. Not worth it.

Your money, your decision! Do what makes you happy!

I would trade for the five-digit Sub; it’ll only increase in value. But ultimately, the decision rests with you.

5 digit subs are underwhelming and compared to both your AT and 3861 are not built with the same quality feel. That said, the 5 digit is a dream to wear and has charm.

But I would not do that trade unless you’re interested in selling your sub later for a profit. I’d keep the 3861 and move the AT plus add some $

I would definitely do that trade. The AT is a meh watch. The speedmaster can always be replaced. But the submariner is an iconic piece, especially if it's a full set and good condition as you're stating.

3-5 years from now the sub will easily be worth more than the other two

I would probably forgo that trade. I think the versatility of the AT and the Speedy are awesome paired with the Explorer.

I'm in the 3 watches is better than 2 camp so might just trade the AT and some cash for the sub. Will leave you with land sea air trio!

I would not trade two new Omega watches for a 17 year old Rolex

Prefer the idea of trading the AT (if you truly don't wear it anymore) towards a dress watch. No personal experience with GS; were it me I might try and find one of these lingering in a dealer case (don't care that it's marketed as a ladies' watch - identical to the "men's" but my ideal size for a dress watch):

https://www.jomashop.com/zenith-watc...9-11-c714.html

But not sure what your particular AT configuration trades at these days...

I would take the 16610 by trading the AT and cash. I’d keep the speedy, thus having a Diver/Chrono mini collection

Add a little cash on top and get a 6 digit sub.

Either way, moving 2 omegas and getting 1 Rolex is definitely an upgrade

Hold out for a 6 digit...then 1000% do the trade.

It depends on the condition of the Sub. Pics would be helpful

Yes, I would make the trade. You are not wearing the AT, so it must go. I would much prefer a 5-digit sub to a Speedmaster. I used to have a Speedmaster, and I got bored with it.

The value of the sub will continue to rise, and you can use that to your advantage later.

I'd do this trade.

5 digit Sub in good condition, full set......it is something I'd rather have before the 2 Omegas mentioned.

I'd rather the Sub but I'd make my decision based on the value of the pieces. I'll let the OP do the math.

As I don´t care personally for either the AT or the Speedmaster I´d definitely trade them for a 5-digit Sub if it´s in really good condition and it “sings” to you on the wrist. I think only you can judge the financial perspective. That said, a Sub and Explorer go very well together, imo! I wouldn´t even consider your other option, a Grand Seiko, as I don´t like Seikos either! But that´s just me…!

A trade worth doing?

I wouldn’t do this trade. As someone who owns an AT on rubber, a speedy, and a sub, the AT gets more wrist time than all. I personally love it. I also don’t make my decisions based on investment and what the value may be down the line. Don’t really care.

You can always add a sub down the line. I would keep the two watches you have.

Here’s my AT

How much do you like the 5 digit Sub? Do you like it more than the 6?

How much do you have in the Omegas? (I ask given how you could/can sometimes get references for a good bit under MSRP.)

I wouldn't do it. The 5-digit Sub is nice, but not really worth what you are giving up.

Too many people here see Rolex as the end all of watches. I think the 5 digit Sub is nice, but not worth what people are paying for it. And the quality is just not there compared to a modern Speedmaster or AT.

If you aren't wearing the AT, I agree get rid of that, but don't trade 2 amazing watches for one overhyped and overrated watch.

Love your AT on the rubber strap! Maybe that's the direction I should go down in order to differentiate the AT from the Explorer and get more wear out of it...!?

I've previously had a 6 digit GMT and found that it wore too big on my 6.5inch wrist. Hence my interest in 5 digit.

I bought the AT at at 25% discount to retail and the speedy at 20% discount.

Yes that would be my preference too, but I wouldn't be too popular at home if I had to put my hand into my pocket!!

I, too, find the 5 digit subs to be underwhelming. However, the charm you mention is completely lost on me. I do not prefer them under any circumstance. I would not do this trade.

From a financial perspective, IMHO it seems reasonable if we are talking about one of the lower priced ATs and the Sub is in really, really good shape with a relatively recent service performed (if no service in recent history, there's another $1,000+ you are looking at probably in the not-too-distant future.)

The downer is that the AT and Speedy are both really good watches, so you'd be giving up two watches that I think would be easy to miss when they are gone.

And I also do agree with others about the quality. I originally was looking at 5 digits as I have a smaller wrist, but I just couldn't love the clasp and bracelet enough for the price of the watches I looked at.

Is this a straight trade or is a cash top off required on your end to complete the trade?
