Time for a Patek
I just bought one of the last rolexes I was looking for on New Year’s Eve. Although I don’t have my 16618 yet, I can’t justify buying one with the absurd prices. I can wait on that until pricing changes.
I decided if I was going to spend 30-40k it won’t be for a 16618, but rather a Patek. I am very new to Patek. My collection is only Rolex right now. I need help on what to look at. I don’t like the nautilus line with the metal bracelets. I want something with at least 1, possibly 2 complications. I want it on a leather strap and would prefer a gold case, but white gold, or stainless is ok. There’s so many different models and sub models it makes my head spin. What advice or direction can you guys give me. 30-40k budget. Pre owned preferred. I never sell any of my pieces so this is for me, forever, reselling isn’t important. Having all boxes and papers isn’t the end of the world, as long as the watch checks out. |

Stay away from all sport models.
Focus on dress watches. Even then, imo it’s going to be hard to hit your budget. Patek is way crazier than Rolex. Good luck.

If I were in your shoes, I’d strongly consider a 3940. Will have to stretch budget just a bit. With this piece, and a few different straps, I could be very content.

Patek
I have a 5119j, which is a classic hobnail Calatrava. It is purely a dress watch. It is no longer produced, but I believe it can be readily found in the used marketplace close to its MSRP. |

5227R is the most beautiful watch I have ever seen, just stunning in it's simplicity and officers case back. It is the only watch I would spend (if I had it) that much money on.

A friendly heads up, Patek secondhand pricing is crazier than Rolex. Plus, adding complications to the mix will be a challenging within your budget. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

I really like that calatrava pictured above. That is definetly my style and taste. Maybe a couple of options similar to that will get me going.

Everything is crazy as far as prices. My wife totaled her FPace a few weeks ago. What a pain to find a replacement. No inventory and people paying over ask for a car!!

My Calatrava is yellow gold, but a friend of mine has the same model in rose gold and it is equally compelling.

Pre-owned 5227 or 5127 or 5196 or 5153 or 5119. All beautiful options. Happy hunting!

OP should also look at the Annual Calendar models within his budget - 5146, 5205, 5396.

if you like the Calatrava above then you can definelty get a brand new (Ref 6119) one from your AD within your budget.
however goinf back to your first point of wanting a complication, here it goes: 1- Annual Calendar: you have Ref.5146 (WG, YG, RG) in high 30s low 40s 2- Travel Time: you have Ref.5524 (comes in WG and RG) in low to mid 40s 3- Perpetual Calendar: you have Ref.5140 priced in the 40s and is a modern interpretation of the historical Ref.3940 which already raised in price. hope that helps, happy to answer any questions

I second the 5146, great bang for the buck and you should be able to get at an AD

The newly released 6119 with the new movement would be my choice as a great, within budget entry to the brand. Welcome to Patek!

5134, 5085 or 5036 are interesting contestants for your price range.

I would look towards the Calatrava line-up. The PP AD had 2 or 3 in the case North of ATL a couple of months ago.
Of course you could also go vintage… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

In my opinion this is the best watch you can buy well within your budget.

Plenty of pre-owned options available for your budget but make sure to do your homework: purchase the seller, if a deal seems too good to be true then it is

Have a look at the white gold 5124G-001 Gondolo, salmon dial. Incredible watch and well within your budget, with a load of change left over!

3940 or perhaps a nice World Timer. 5146 might be good too as suggested above.
